quite an ambitious game, i like the aesthetics and level desgin, the enemies looked good but maybe some textures would have been cool, i couldn't really progress past the first part after hitting the button as the controls were hard to grasp and the hitboxes felt a bit weird at times especially when i couldn't see my bullet sometimes. there were some ai pathfinding issues where the enemy would get stuck behind a rock or another dead enemy. i like that you addedsome game feel thought with the camera shake, audio and blood effects but sometimes the blood effects didn't spawn so i couldn't tell if i was hitting them or not. Good job though would be cool to see more development.

I feel the movement direction should be relative to the camera not where the character is facing; its very disorienting how it is now. The shooting felt decent. I think a reload would have added to the game loop nicely. Some sort of hit sound for shooting enemies would have been nice as the blood effect didn't always show. I would honestly say the hit sound would be more important than the blood FX here.

The ambient droning sound helps set the mood. The map looks neat even though its simple. The enemies look neat.

Overall a cool little experience.

I will definitely change the controls in the next update. I agree that the hit sound is needed, and… it is there ;) but it’s hard to catch it because just like the animation it doesn’t play always, it’s a bug I need to work on. Thanks for playing and for the comment!

This game shows potential but there's a lot of bugs and it's very hard at the moment

I've had some problems with the controls at first... Probably orienting it with the game would fit well. Except that, I like everything in this game! You have nice low poly pixelated graphics and an incredible level design! Congrats!

I like the setting you have here. The controls didn't quite stick with me, but looking forward to a possible future version of this :)

Could not manage to get used to controls but really like visuals and audio :)

The controls weren't that bad for me, but I can see why others here have that complaint. Other than that, I think this was a really good entry. The sound effects were punchy and hitting the enemies felt good (sometimes a hit looked like a miss, though). And I love the minimal graphics and HUD and the way you used the lighting.

I died 3 times before I was able to complete the game. That's when I learned I could cheese the enemy AI by shooting them at the edges of my screen where I'm outside their aggro range xD

I gotta ask, did you think about a "dash" or "evade" mechanic when making this? That would make combat feel much more fun and involved. Overall, I enjoyed your entry. Great job!

Developer

I didn’t think about dash mechanics, but it’s a cool idea, indeed the fight would be more interesting! I had a plan for a better “second level”, but I ran out of time. Thanks for playing and for the comment!

I think I sort of got used to the controls (although separated controls would be nice), but I feel like my shots weren't always hitting properly? I see a bit of faulty auto-aim or something.

Regardless, I like what you were going for. Good job!

Developer

Looks like “hit” animation doesn’t play every time, I should spend more time testing it ;)

I will be honesty, I did not like the controls. Maybe it's something you get used to but for me I was fighting the controls more than the alien-monsters.

I did like the aesthetics you were going for though and the idea of endless shooter is always nice. Good work even if I had my gripes with the controls. ^^

Developer

True, the controls are weird, even for me ;) I tried to replicate the controls from my favorite childhood game Ultimate Tapan Kaikki, now I see it was bad idea.

I mean I gotta respect the choice, that's a legendary game lol I don't think it's 100% bad idea though, it's a risky one for sure, but also one you can make work but it's hard. Ultimately the conflict with the controls for me was that it was was that the alien monsters didn't slow down when hit or anything so dodging their attacks meant you also had to turn around at points to get good momentum to get away. So I'd say you could still get the controls to work but the rest of the game should reflect on the controls then too ^^

should have intuitive top down control
