Almost wrote a review here in gibberish, but decided against it last minute. It looked quite cool building up in the background, but the platforming gameplay left something to be desired, a fact doubly mired down by the backtracking. I liked the character banter.
It's a simple game concept that's held back by its controls. The amount of invisible walls, narrow FoV, and lack of directional aerial control during jumps just made it frustrating to play
Cool concept! If the controls were tighter, this game could definitely be one of the top ones. The web version doesn’t always run smoothly, and it’s a bit odd that it’s better to die with a stone in your hand to get back quickly. Maybe the respawn should happen at each gate—it would also make all the walking less frustrating. Great game!
really Cool concept for the game jam!
Hi Fellow unreal creator, nice game, controls were a bit frustrating but the story tied it together to keep me playing, very cool sky effect and environmental design
Hey! cool seeing other unreal dev! Yeah the first person template isn't the best for plateforming, especially in 4.23 haha, thanks for playing !
Nice Idea but the control is a bit frustrating, keep getting out of the game window on browser.
Hey, thanks for playing! Try left clicking in the game windows, it should focus you in the game, else i don't really know, probably come from unreal web, sorry for this and thanks again for playing !
No worries! these things are normal in any game jam games ^_^
Nice style, but playing in first person with constantly changing/moving tiles feels more frustrating than fun as it's quite disorienting.
Also quite a few of the edges of the map are death traps that I cannot seem to get out of due to downward sloping terrain with invisible walls
Hye thanks ! Yeah a plateformer with unreal first person wasn't the best idea, and for the invisible wall, where didi you get stuck ? we tried a lot of different place and didn't get stuck, sorry for this!
I got a couple of blocks. The jumping is a bit floaty/unresponsive to make those tight jumps. I like the style and vibe tho. The tower looks good!
always a pity that people forget there are more keyboard layout then qwerty. So it makes it reallly difficult to play with the WASD controller ;)
Hey, we didn't forgot about it, we are a french studio so we use ZQSD, sadly we use unreal and unreal use charracter code for input, and not position, so we can't add all the input and put wqsd as it's the most popular, we will try to add key rebing for the next jam but i can't promise anything haha, sorry for this
aaaah
So your own keyboard lay-out is the same as mine 🤣 (belgian)
It is not always easy indeed
Tried to play it multi times, But it gets stuck in the load
Hey, try a different navigator (like mozilla, chrome, brave or even bing if needed) else if you want you can downlaod the executable version (even tho it's heavy as, well unreal engine), Thanks !
really good visuals and catchy controlls
I like the concept but the controls felt a little unresponsive and the game was cut from the sides, making it hard to understand some dialogs in the game.
sorry to here that, maybe try a different navigator or the executable, it will maybe fix the problem.
Thanks for your review !
I'll give you a constructive review (I'm the one who chatted with you on discord)
Over-all the game is well made within the time constraints and my actual rating is objective and based on the the limit, now I want to give you the feedback which I hope you can use for further deleopment for either this or future games! :)
First off the tutorial is not strictly necessary here, and the format is poor. I nearly missed it because the text is world-placed and not on your HUD. I would integrate the tutorial into objectives instead ->
"Locate marbles and build the babel tower!" -> The marble should be right in fron of the player and be highlighted, after picking it up the drop-point should be right in front, also highlighted with a particle effect or something - this way the player will be led toward what he should do, but they are not forced to do so.
2. The map is disorientating and it's difficult to know where to go. One suggestion I have for this right on top of my head is to have a map-board that indicates which areas are locked or not, OR somehow create a better leveldesign so the player can obviously see which is the first are to go to (maybe there's only one path, and along that path are side-tracks to each platforming area)
3. 80% of the game-play is platforming, so make player movement that is satisfying to use when platforming. Here's a general tips in platforming games: Give player full controll over movement, overshooting is too easy to do, and feels punishing. (I'm referring to when jumping you can't control the velocity anymore and just have to pray that you land on the correct platform) -thats a generally bad design for platforming games.
4. last one is not a game-breaking thing just something I noticed, when picking up marble you can intentionally die/go into water to respawn with stone in hand for quicker delivery
All in all I think given the time constraints the game is good and well made! so GOOD JOB!
Yeah, i tried putting the tutorial in the world to see how it will go, guess i won't do that anymore haha, but i needed to try it, I tried making the map more "logical" with the red lighting pole and then making it around the map, but yeah it's not easily understandable, We used default unreal movement, i didn't had probleme with the jumping, so the problem come from me here, And yes, the water thing is a feature to go faster for the speedrun
cool concept
The screenshots look beautiful but I could not figure out how to do anything. Sorry that I could not figure it out.
Hey, maybe i can help, what was your problem ?
To move it's W A S D, spacebar to jump, left mouse button to interact and right mouse button to zoom, hope to help!
The screenshots look great, but I couldn't progress.
hey, what was the problem is i can help ? Thanks for trying !
The screenshots look great, but I couldn't progress.
Couldn't get past the first section, the movement and jumping is just not it. WOuld have loved to see what happens when the tower is done. Rude Knight is my guy!
will put a speedrun video later, and yes something happen at the end!
Thanks for playing !
The controls make it hard to play, which reduced the fun part for me drastically.
We used default unreal movement, wich are not the best for plateformer, sorry for this, hope you still had fun and thanks for playing !
