Yes, us, AGAIN!!! We are Zeus and Perseus and we have been waiting forever, getting closer and closer to being in rescue a year already! We are a pair of adult male piggies and have gotten to enjoy life in several different foster homes. We are very handsome, but Perseus is also a little shy. We would like a home with lots of space to play and run as we are energetic young bucks.

February 1, 2016 Tracking Animal Cruelty FBI Collecting Data on Crimes Against Animals Acts of cruelty against animals are now counted alongside felony crimes like arson, burglary, assault, and homicide in the FBI’s expansive criminal database. On January 1, the Bureau’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) began collecting detailed data from participating law enforcement agencies on acts of animal cruelty, including gross neglect, torture, organized abuse, and sexual abuse. Before this year, crimes that involved animals were lumped into an “All Other Offenses” category in the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program’s annual Crime in the United States report, a survey of crime data provided by about 18,000 city, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies. By adding animal cruelty offenses to NIBRS, law enforcement agencies and the advocacy groups that pushed for the inclusion in the FBI database are hoping the results will reveal a more complete picture of the nature of cruelty to animals. “Some studies say that cruelty to animals is a precursor to larger crime,” said Nelson Ferry, who works in the Bureau’s Criminal Statistics Management Unit, which manages NIBRS. “That’s one of the items that we’re looking at.” Read full article: https://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/-tracking-animal-cruelty Resources: - NIBRS Can Offer Fuller Crime Picture - More on the FBI’s UCR Program Chasing the Dragon: Raising Awareness of Opioid Addiction Chasing the Dragon: Raising Awareness of Opioid Addiction New FBI Academy Program Integrates Agents and Intelligence Analysts New FBI Academy Program Integrates Agents and Intelligence Analysts

Petco Love (formerly Petco Foundation) invests in organizations that have the most impact. Through a decision model designed to evaluate and assess organizations alongside their peers, we empower those that are most productive and effective, and work with a relentless determination to succeed. By donating in Petco store and on petco.com, adopting, volunteering and fostering your support makes it possible for us to celebrate 20 years of saving animal lives. Thank you for sharing our passion for animals and believing that together we can, and will, create a lifesaving nation. The Petco Foundation was founded in 1999, formalizing Petco's longstanding commitment to animal welfare. Over the years, we've served as a leader and valued partner in animal welfare, always focusing on one thing: Creating a better world for animals and the people who love and need them. In April 2021, we took the next step in our lifesaving mission and adopted a new name, Petco Love. We will continue to lead the way every day to harness the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier--and create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized. Since 1999, we've invested $300 million in lifesaving animal welfare work across the country. With more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference in the lives of animals. Through our adoption efforts in more than 1,500 Petco stores nationwide, we've brought more than 6.5 million pets together with loving families. And we're just getting started.

We are so grateful for the service of our nation’s retired Police K-9 and Military Working Dog Heroes that we want to honor them in retirement, and ensure the best quality of life for them, by providing assistance with medical costs, food and end of duty services. We rely on donors like you to fund our project , because there are no public funds for police and military working dogs. We are now working with Congress to change that with the K-9 Hero Act. For the last three years Project K-9 Hero has been working on the K-9 Hero Act in coordination with Congressman Ron Wright and his office. Right now Project K-9 Hero, Congress, and the Senate are gathering support to take this bill to a vote. The K-9 Hero Act was a vision we had at Project K-9 Hero and a vision our Founder, Jason Johnson, had over many years on how we can take funding from the federal government and help give that to non-profits to spend on medical bills for retired federal K-9s. This bill will allow for any military working dog or federal law enforcement K-9s to seek services through non-profits like Project K-9 Hero and allow us as an organization to take in grant money to spend specifically on medical bills for those dogs. This bill will allocate $5,000,000 of federal grant funds each fiscal year from 2021 through 2025. The future of retired working dogs with respect to ownership and provision of medical services is often unclear and the medical treatment required by many former working dogs is significant enough that it creates a hardship for the individuals, often former partners, who take in these canine heroes. At Project K-9 Hero we set in to fill this gap. This bill will help us at Project K-9 Hero free up some of our other donations where we can help spend it on a deputy sheriff dog or a state police dog or a city dog. Not only does it impact our federal community but it will impact our local and state communities as well. Jason Johnson states, “For me it’s a legacy as the Founder of Project K-9 Hero. I want to make sure that the work is being carried on for generations to come. It’s time our government take into consideration that if we’re going to use them and treat them like heroes when they’re on duty and during their service that we're going to treat them the same way in retirement.” We encourage you to reach out to your Senator or Congressman to ask them to support H.R. 5081, The K-9 Hero Act. These heroes spent their entire careers protecting us. Now it’s our turn to protect them. ead the status of this bill here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/5081/text

About This Group
CTLAFP is a group that supports the families of missing pets and supports those who find stray pets. We are a Facebook support group for folks in the lost pet community. We started the page in 2012. We have an admin team, a moderator team, scanners, fosters, and over 30,000 members. We do not have funding, we are not a 501, we are not a rescue. Our goals are to reunite pets and their families above all. To keep pets out of our over crowded local shelters, we ask regular citizens to open their home to lost pets. We offer an adoption page for th ose who have held found pets over n hours and we also help raise funds for vetting found pets. We attend pet events and host our own events through out the community to allow these members the chance to find homes for their fosters. Email ctlafp@gmail.com for more information.

Education, not shame In a perfect world, every dog on the planet would be living in the comfort of their human’s home; snuggled up on the couch or snoring from their dog bed. However, this isn’t how things are at all. Our team members have witnessed the evil and harsh reality of what dogs endure in this cruel world. They are the voice for these helpless animals and at times also a savior. Our team is comprised of passionate souls that want nothing more than the welfare for the dogs in the community to be treated fairly, kindly, and at the very least humanly. At the very start of 2019, a group of animal rescuers in Waco, TX set out on a mission to help members of the community to take better care of their backyard dogs. With no shelter, these dogs stood helplessly in the rain, bared the wind with no protection, and curled up in a ball in hopes of staying warm at night. They went out searching for used dog houses or igloo shelters, collected old blankets and straw, and gave them to the homeowner at no cost. This act of kindness became a regular thing and within a matter of weeks, donations from various companies, individuals, and groups started pouring in…giving Cribs for Canines enough materials to make 200 dog houses. The intent was to place the houses throughout McLennan County, to dogs in need of shelter. The mission isn’t just protect the dogs. Dog ownership requires a large amount of responsibility : food, water, and shelter. Public laws are in place to prevent dogs from going without but it is often overlooked and ignored. Cribs for Canines want owners to keep their dogs, and by providing them the means to take care of their dogs properly: they keep dogs in good homes, off of the streets, and out of the shelter.

Interesting Dog Breed: Alaskan Klee Kai
Source https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/alaskan-klee-kai/ Temperament: Loyal, Intelligent, Vigilant Height: 13 inches and under (Toy), 13-15 inches (Miniature), 15-17 1/2 inches (Standard) Weight: 6-12 lbs (Toy), 10-18 lbs (Miniature), 16-25 lbs (Standard) Life Expectancy: 13-16 years Group: Foundation Stock Service
About the Alaskan Klee Kai The Alaskan Klee Kai has a symmetrical contrasting facial mask and body markings. This small northern-type companion breed is alert, energetic and curious. Naturally reserved with strangers, AKK require early socialization and training. The Alaskan Klee Kai have ancient roots descending from the numerous native dogs which have populated Alaska for thousands of years. Many of these dogs became not only loving family pets, but in the harsh environment of Alaska, were crucial for survival for the tribal groups and nomadic people. They excelled at pulling sleds, hiking, hunting, tracking, and were early warning alerts for dangers such as wild animals or enemies approaching. One of the largest groups of native dogs that make up the base of what became known as the Alaskan Husky type of dog are the Alaskan Interior Village dogs. Husky lines from Siberia, which were imported to Alaska in the early 1900s, were added to much of this hearty dog population as dog sled racing started to grow. They developed an intelligent, vigorous, and hardworking dog, with a happy nature. The Alaskan Klee Kai breed we see today was developed in Alaska from these well-bred husky dogs by Linda Spurlin and her family starting in the early 1970s. Using a strict breeding program to select the somewhat smaller dogs with the type/look she envisioned that also met her high standards for health, structure and temperament, she carefully developed a companion-sized version of the Alaska Husky with a very distinctive contrasting symmetrical facial mask and markings. Much like their ancestors, the Alaskan Klee Kai is adaptable to multiple lifestyles, traveling, hiking, sports, entertainment, therapy and service, and most importantly, a loving companion dog for all ages.

Many of the dachshunds we get are abandoned in shelters because they can no longer provide their owners with healthy puppies to be sold. Or they have gotten old and are in need of medical attention so they are sent to the shelter for someone else to care for. All too often the only medical care they have ever had was their first shots as puppies. Some of the Dachshunds who come to us are purebreds. They come to us in all shapes sizes and colors. If you are truly looking for a pet that wants nothing more then to please you and love you, then please consider adopting one of our seniors. They are full of love and ask for nothing more than to be loved in return.
Famous Animals:
Source: https://www.metv.com/stories/columbos-basset-hounddog-was-a-rescue-dog-in-real-life-just-like-on-the-show
Columbo's Basset hound ''Dog'' was a rescue dog in real life, just like on the show Columbo never had a partner, but he did not work alone. In the season two premiere, "Etude in Black," the disheveled detective adopts an adorable Basset hound from the pound. Being a responsible pet owner, Columbo takes the pooch to the veterinarian for shots. A trip to the vet turns out to help Columbo solve the case… but we're here to talk about the dog, not the mystery. Columbo ponders what to call his dog. He chats with the animal and tries on "Fido" and "Beethoven" for size. Of course, he ends up simply calling the dog "Dog." Dog quickly became a fan favorite. After all, who could not relate to an animal that enjoyed the finer things in life like ice cream and television? Today, a bronze statue of Columbo and Dog sits in Budapest, Hungary, forever commemorating their friendship. The plot of "Etude in Black" was not so far from the truth. Well, no murder was involved, but Henry, the canine actor who played Dog, came from a shelter. Animal trainer Ray Berwick, the man who wrangled hundred of crows for Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, rescued Henry from the Burbank animal shelter.
Did you know McGruff the crime dog was modeled after Columbo? Take a bite out of crime - and perhaps a trenchcoat from Columbo.

BARI- Bari’s estimated birthday is 8/19/12, a very slim 11 lb, handsome reddish tan boy with white markings, he is fostering with IGCA Rescue North Texas. Bari is a special needs puppy mill rescue still working hard on socialization, human trust and physical attention. Everyone who spends time with Bari grows to love him. The happy dance he does, when he knows he is going outside, and his frolic through the yard as he runs back to the door is joyful to watch. He fits in beautifully with a group of dogs as he is easy and demands no attention causing jealousy. He prefers his kennel and a comfortable bed to toys and attention. Do you and your pets have a place in your home and hearts to become Bari’s forever family?
TAVISH-If you’re looking for a very loving, calm IG in his middle years, Tavish is your lad. Tavi (also known as Butterbean) is a charmer and whip-smart. He already knows many commands/words and learns more as his foster mom teaches him. Tavi loves a routine and finds it comforting to know what’s happening (and when) as regards to walks, potty breaks and feeding. This is partly the breed and also due to his blindness, caused by cataracts. Please don’t think of Tavi as a “special needs” dog; his foster mom believes he has been blind for quite awhile, since he’s very comfortable with his sight loss. He gets to know his home pretty quickly to make his way around and will zero in on your location when you say, “come!” and clap hands. He’s just a regular dog who happens to be blind.

EMMA ROSE- I'm a chill girl just looking for someone to snuggle with. I love laying outside in the grass just soaking up the sun and am very comfortable with using a supervised doggie door. I'm patient with my hyper foster sister and have never had a single issue with food aggression, even when foster sister tries to steal my treats! Emma Rose has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. She is currently symptom free (we found the mass by chance, during a routine vet visit) and has started treatment. At this time she is expected to have a good quality of life for at least the coming year, if not longer.
WALLACE- Wallace is a sweet boy who has made amazing progress during his time in rescue. He came to us from a puppy mill and was terrified of everything. People were very scary and it took a couple of months before he would willingly let his foster mom pet him. Wallace has discovered the joy of toys and he has become more and more playful. He loves the other dogs in the house and will frequently be seen cuddling with them on a dog bed. While Wallace has made a lot of progress, he is still continuing to grow. When new or confusing situations present themselves, he will get scared and is unsure of how to react. He is looking for a patient and loving home to help him as he continues on his journey, and you will be rewarded with lots of love!

Medical Notes for a healthier Pet:
Pests That Feed on Your Pets source:https://pets.webmd.com/ss/slideshow-flea-and-tick-overview The soft, warm fur of dogs and cats provides the perfect environment for fleas and ticks. These insects feed on your pet’s blood and can cause health problems ranging from allergic reactions to serious tick-borne illnesses. Both fleas and ticks are more common during the warmer months, but you can take steps to ward them off any time of year.Flea Warning Signs: Dogs Flea droppings (dark specks) in the fur Flea eggs (white specks) in the fur Excessive licking or scratching Scabs or hot spots on the skin Flea Warning Signs: Cats The easiest way to find fleas on a cat is to use a flea comb (a special fine-toothed comb). Especially check the neck and around the base of the tail. You also can check the belly. You may see the fleas -- small dark spots that move -- or their droppings, which look like specks of dirt. Lots of scratching and hair loss are also signs that fleas may be feasting on your feline. Anemia Fleas can take in 15 times their own weight in blood. Dogs or cats that lose too much blood may develop anemia, a dangerous drop in the number of their red blood cells. Puppies and kittens are especially at risk. Signs of anemia caused by fleas include pale gums and lack of energy. Allergic to Fleas Fleas are the most common cause of skin disease in dogs and cats. When a flea bites, it injects saliva into your pet’s skin. This may trigger an allergic reaction. Signs include intense itching, hair loss (especially just in front of the tail), scabs, and red, irritated skin, which may lead to skin infections. How Do Pets Get Fleas? Pets can easily pick up fleas when outdoors. Indoor cats can get them even if they just go out on the patio or share their home with a dog. Female fleas can lay 40 to 50 eggs a day. That can lead to an infestation in days. Tick Warning Signs You can feel ticks when you pet your cat or dog, and you can see them. They most often attach near the head, neck, ears, or paws. On cats, they're usually found around the ears and eyes. Ticks can carry diseases. If you find a tick on your pet, try to remove it as soon as possible. Safe Ways to Remove Ticks Skip gasoline, nail polish, petroleum jelly, alcohol, or a hot match. These methods can force infected fluids back into the bite. Instead: Use gloves or tissue to cover your hands. Grasp the tick with tweezers from the side, by its head, close to the skin. Pull straight up. Don't twist. Don't squeeze (or pop!) the bloated belly. Wash the bite area and your hands. Mouth parts that remain rarely cause serious problems. Questions? Call your vet.

Our Story PoundPup and Friends Initiative - PPFI·Wednesday, January 22, 2020· PoundPup originated in 2010, when our founder went to the local “pound” to pick up Polly (that’s her stray photo from the shelter website). Polly was apparently deaf and blind, and had mange. Her prognosis did not seem to be very good, and shelter staff released her free of charge, in hopes that she may have a few good days in a loving home. Many medical treatments later, Polly emerged healthy and very spunky. This is when PoundPup and Friends founder, Liz Rainey, realized that with proper funding, we could probably save a lot more animals from going to the pound, or getting adopted out of the shelter. An idea was born, but lack of funding soon stopped the program. But the idea lingered in Liz’s head, and on August 17, 2017, she filed the necessary paperwork to get PoundPup and Friends Initiative formally registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We want to assist displaced, stray or unwanted pet animals in an effort to keep them out of shelters and avoid euthanasia or exposure to dangerous elements, human or natural. Happy New Year! 2012 is going to be a wonderful year for animals in San Antonio. You may be aware already that the Austin city shelter has gotten to a greater than 90% save rate due largely to the efforts of Austin Pets Alive! The great news is that San Antonio Pets Alive! has already been formed to make San Antonio a No Kill City with an estimated life-saving launch date of 1/19/2012. This new organization will use best practices from many different cities to get to a No Kill San Antonio as fast as possible - which would make us the largest U.S. city to be No Kill! The world has long believed that there are not enough homes for the pets killed in shelters but according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, there are over 100,000 homes available to new pets in San Antonio each year. If we convince just 20% of those homes, through marketing, awareness, and adoption events to adopt a shelter pet instead of purchasing a pet, enough animals will be saved to make San Antonio a No Kill City (where only terminally ill or dangerous animals are euthanized). Currently, the city of San Antonio euthanizes
over 18,000 animals per year, or around 50/day. This is a crisis that needs immediate attention. SAPA will have a laser-like focus on the dogs and cats who are literally hours from euthanasia, and will provide temporary and emergency foster homes, medical aid, and adoption services to make sure they survive. Our first priority will be to save every single puppy and then move on to saving every single kitten, then on to the adults who end up on the euthanasia list. Just like every animal ends up in the shelter through the action of one person, we need for every animal to get out of the shelter alive through the action of individuals like you who all step up to help. It is going to take the San Antonio community to help make this a success! Let’s all make a New Year’s Resolution to save our San Antonio animals! San Antonio Pets Alive’s success will be possible because of YOUR thoughtful contributions (time and money). Because only by working together can we reach a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. Your tax-deductible gift will give hope and a loving home to San Antonio’s animals. Please don’t delay. I urge you to give
your most generous gift now so that we can rescue animals that are currently in danger of euthanasia and help re-home them in the new year! Thank you and bless you for your kindness In partnership and excitement Dr Ellen Jefferson Executive Director

The Power of Proper Socialization — Puppy Training Classes Pay Off source:https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/training/puppy-training-classes/ By Stephanie Gibeault, MSc, CPDT May 16, 2018
Most dog owners have no doubt heard about the importance of socializing their puppy. Proper socialization means providing positive experiences with as many new people, dogs, and situations as possible. It’s essential for developing a confident and well-adjusted adult dog that is comfortable with all life has to offer. Unfortunately, despite the significance, many people aren’t providing enough socialization for their young canine companions. New research from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph shows that puppy classes are an important part of ensuring that your dog is properly socialized. The researchers sampled 296 puppy owners across North America, giving them questionnaires when they enrolled in the study and again when their puppies were 20 weeks old. The results showed that nearly one-third of the puppies in the study received only minimal exposure to people and dogs outside the home. The researchers defined “minimal exposure” as interactions with up to five dogs and 10 people in a two-week period. That may seem like a full social calendar, but it’s nowhere near what a puppy needs for proper socialization. The researchers warn that a lack of socialization opportunities can lead to behavior problems down the road. In his book, “Before & After Getting Your Puppy,” Dr. Ian Dunbar recommends that your puppy meet at least 100 different people in his first month at home. That should include individuals of different heights, ages, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as people with glasses, canes, hats, umbrellas, in wheelchairs, etc. One of the easiest ways to contribute to this necessary level of socialization is to attend puppy classes. © The American Kennel Club, Inc. 2021. Company Overview
Local Cat rescue ensuring that all unwanted, abused, and abandoned cats in the North Killeen Castle Heights area have a loving place to call home. We started when we came across a stray kitten on our property, he was very shy and sad. We earned his trust and let him in our home. We made him healthy and happy and found him a good home. Soon after another cat showed up skinny and in need of love, so we did the same for her. Next thing we knew we were up to 8 cats, then 10, then we were rescuing every cat we came across. It was our mission to help them all.

Services Complete Care: From the moment that your pet enters our care, we adhere to the strict guidelines and standards set for by the International Association of Pet Cemeteries & Crematories. Pet Angels guarantees that ashes that are returned are genuine. We use the Pet ID Tag system originally developed for human cremation. This Pet ID Tag can withstand temperatures exceeding 2800 degrees and will remain on your pet throughout the entire cremation process. What is Pet Cremation? The staff at Pet Angels Cremation would like to express’s our deepest sympathies for your loss. We recognize that the love shared between a pet owner and a loyal pet is undeniable. In our opinion there is no better tribute to a fallen companion than to memorialize the love shared between an owner and pet through cremation. This allows pet owners to say goodbye to their four-legged companion in a dignified and loving way. We offer both Private and Simple Cremations, which are explained below. Cremation Options: Private: This is a private cremation service where your pet’s remains are separated from others. The pet’s ashes are returned to the pet owner in a beautiful urn of their choice. Also included in a private cremation is our Essential Remembrance Package. Simple: This is a “group” cremation where several pet companions are placed into the chamber together. There is no ash return with simple cremations. We will dispose of the pet’s ashes in a beautiful setting never to be disturbed.

Woody’s Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains in Greentown, Pa. Our mission is to provide the best possible long-term care for displaced senior German Shepherds. (Senior being 8 years and older.) We also provide sanctuary for senior German Shepherds with Degenerative Myelopathy which is a disease that affects the spinal cord, resulting in slow progressive hind limb weakness, paralysis, and eventually death. Displaced senior German Shepherds have come to us from as far south as Florida and as far west as California, but we primarily focus on Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. We are a cage-free, home environment on a little over three acres where the senior German Shepherds in our care get 24/7 supervision, the best medical care, high-quality dog food and home-cooked meals, lots of orthopedic dog beds, plenty of short frequent walks, and lots of love and interaction with people and other dogs.
Fun facts
Jonathan, an 183-year-old Aldabra giant tortoise
Long-Lived Landlubbers Currently the world's oldest known land animal is Jonathan, an 183-year-old Aldabra giant tortoise that lives on the grounds of the governor‛s mansion in St. Helena, an island off West Africa. (Related: "Healthy Diet Helps 183-YearOld Tortoise Feel Young Again.")
Naturally, nobody is really sure about his date-of-hatching. Tortoises don‛t carry a ‘date of manufacture‛ mark and the colonial government of St Helena had other more pressing things to worry about than tortoises. However, the belief is that he was brought to the island aged about 50 back in 1882, which would make his date of hatching 1832. ‘Happy Birthday, Jonathan‛, 2021{f} Only he knows his actual age and he isn‛t saying Jonathan was brought to Saint Helena from the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean in 1882, along with three other tortoises at about 50 years of age. He was named in the 1930s by Governor of Saint Helena Sir Spencer Davis. He continues to live on the grounds of Plantation House, the official residence of the governor, and is cared for by the government of Saint Helena. His age is estimated because he was 'fully mature' when brought to Saint Helena in 1882. 'Fully Jonathan in 1942 with Governor Bain-Gray (1941-1946) Jonathan playing croquet, 1969 mature' means at least 50 years old, giving him a hatching date no later than 1832. A photograph featuring Jonathan originally thought to date from 1902 actually dates from 1886,[6][2] showing Jonathan four years after his SO,LA GRATIA arrival on Saint Helena. Measurements taken from the OB'SERVATORY : photograph show that he was Moody, Texas definitely fully mature in 1886.
