Our system is composed of an active learning mechanism as wrapper around a sub-algorithm which implement an online boosting-based learning object detector. In the core is a combination of a bootstrap procedure and a semi automatic learning process based on the online boosting procedure. The idea is to exploit the availability of classifier during learning to automatically label training samples and increasingly improves the classifier. This addresses the issue of reducing labeling effort meanwhile obtain better performance. In addition, we propose a verification process for further improvement of the classifier. The idea is to allow re-update on seen data during learning for stabilizing the detector. In this poster we illustrate the interaction design of a mobile system that facilitates group dec... more In this poster we illustrate the interaction design of a mobile system that facilitates group decision making by allowing group members to be engaged in a discussion which is actively supported by recommendation functions and explanations. The interactions between the users and the system are monitored in order to proactively offer appropriate directions and suggestions. Unlike many state of the art group recommenders, which solely mediates users’ preferences and suggest items that are likely to be acceptable by all the group members, our system acts as a facilitator that guides and helps the group members in coming up with an agreement and a final decision.

This study analyzes the likelihood of management's involvement, the determinants of the offer... more This study analyzes the likelihood of management's involvement, the determinants of the offer premium and the market's reaction to the target in order to evaluate the pervasiveness of the agency cost motive and the information asymmetry motive in LBO transactions in the most recent LBO wave. In addition, we consider the role that market volatility plays in the key elements of LBOs. There is strong evidence to suggest that market volatility plays an important role in determining all three elements under investigation due to its effect on the market value of the firm. In addition, management's involvement has a strong positive effect on offer premiums indicating that positive information asymmetry remains to be a motive for management's involvement in LBOs. The agency cost hypothesis is also supported in all three analyses and there is evidence that increased financial distress costs are a concern to private equity groups.

It is a real scalar H_1^0 in which main part is bilepton (with lepton number 2) and its mass is in the range of some TeVs. We calculate the relic abundance of H_1^0 dark matter by using micrOMEGAs 2.4 and figure out parameter space satisfying the WMAP constraints. Direct and indirect searches are studied for a special choice of parameters in the WMAP - allowed region.
Several cDNA libraries were constructed using mRNA isolated from roots, panicles, cell suspension... more Several cDNA libraries were constructed using mRNA isolated from roots, panicles, cell suspensions and leaves of non-stressed Oryza sativa indica (IR64) and japonica (Azucena) plants, from wounded leaves, and from leaves of both cultivars inoculated with Rice Yellow Mottle Virus (RYMV). A total of 5549 cleaned expressed sequence tags (ESTs) were generated from these libraries. They were classified into functional categories on the basis of homology, and analyzed for redundancy within each library. The expression profiles represented by each library revealed great differences between indica and japonica backgrounds. EST frequencies during the early stages of RYMV infection indicated that changes in the expression of genes involved in energy metabolism and photosynthesis are differentially accentuated in susceptible and partially resistant cultivars. Mapping of these ESTs revealed that several co-localize with previously described resistance gene analogs and QTLs (quantitative trait loci).

Ezetimibe inhibits cholesterol absorption, whereas bile acid-binding resins enhance cholesterol excretion via enhanced conversion to bile acids. Combining these 2 classes may be beneficial, but cholestyramine binds ezetimibe, and the combined effect of colesevelam hydrochloride and ezetimibe was little studied. The aim of the study was to determine if adding colesevelam HCl to ezetimibe provides additional lowering of low-density lipoprotein- and apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins or alters ezetimibe levels. Twenty subjects with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels of 130 mg/dL or higher were enrolled and taught a National Cholesterol Education Program Step I diet. At a second baseline visit, lipoproteins were measured and subjects were randomly allocated to (1) ezetimibe 10 mg daily with placebo colesevelam HCl twice daily (E) or (2) ezetimibe 10 mg daily with 1.875 g colesevelam HCl twice daily (E + C). Lipoproteins were measured 6 and 12 weeks after initiating treatment. Baseline characteristics (mean +/- SD) were statistically indistinguishable in E vs E + C: LDL-C (mg/dL), 167 +/- 26 and 158 +/- 27; triglyceride, 134 +/- 75 and 140 +/- 67; and BMI, 29.4 +/- 4.9 and 27.8 +/- 6.6 kg/m(2), respectively. Percent changes after 12 weeks in E vs E + C were as follows: LDL-C, -24 +/- 12 vs -30 +/- 11 (P = .102); triglyceride, -19 +/- 34 vs 36 +/- 85 (P = .054; at 6 weeks, P = .009); total cholesterol, -19 +/- 9 vs -15 +/- 8 (P = .50); non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, -25 +/- 10 vs -21 +/- 11 (P = .70); apolipoprotein B, -31 +/- 14 vs -22 +/- 14 (P = .41). Plasma ezetimibe levels at 12 weeks were 21% lower in E + C vs E, a nonsignificant difference (P = .54). In conclusion, in the short term, colesevelam HCl may not consistently add cholesterol-lowering benefit to ezetimibe. This observation requires confirmation.
In this paper, we report the synthesis and cell-based anti-prion activity of quinacrine analogs d... more In this paper, we report the synthesis and cell-based anti-prion activity of quinacrine analogs derived by replacing the basic alkyl side chain of quinacrine with 4-(4-methylpiperazin-I-yl)phenyl, (1-benzylpiperidin-4-yl) and their structural variants. Several promising analogs were found that have a more favorable anti-prion profile than quinacrine in terms of potency and activity across different prion-infected murine cell models. They also exhibited greater binding affinities for a human prion protein fragment (hPrP(121-231)) than quinacrine, and had permeabilities on the PAMPA-BBB assay that fall within the range of CNS permeant candidates. When evaluated on bidirectional assays on a Pgp overexpressing cell line, one analog was less susceptible to Pgp efflux activity compared to quinacrine. Taken together, the results point to an important role for the substituted 9-amino side chain attached to the acridine, tetrahydroacridine and quinoline scaffolds. The nature of this side chain influenced cell-based potency, PAMPA permeability and binding affinity to hPrP(121-231).
