The cytomorphological features are described with special emphasis on cytoplasmic granularity and tubule formation as an important feature in diagnosing and differentiating eccrine tumors from other adnexal neoplasms on FNAC.

Micrococcus lactis MCC 2278T and Zhihengliuella aestuarii JCM 16166T were published in Internatio... more Micrococcus lactis MCC 2278T and Zhihengliuella aestuarii JCM 16166T were published in International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology in 2011. They showed high levels of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (99.3%). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. lactis MCC 2278T and Z. aestuarii JCM 16166T formed monophyletic clade and showed distant relationship with other members of the closely related genera like Micrococcus, Zhihengliuella, Arthrobacter and Citricoccus. Presence of high proportion of iso-C14:0 and iso-C16:0 with low iso-C15:0 distinguished M. lactis MCC 2278T and Z. aestuarii JCM 16166T from other members of the genera Micrococcus and Zhihengliuella. Unlike other members of the genera Zhihengliuella and Micrococcus; M. lactis MCC 2278T and Z. aestuarii JCM 16166T showed growth at low concentrations of NaCl. Thus, based on distinctive phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and physiological features of these two organisms from other members of the genera Micrococcus and Zhihengliuella, it is clear that they did not fit with existing classification and deserve separate status. DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH) value between the two strains was 63% and indicated that they were considered as separate species. In this study, we propose for the creation of a novel genus "Neomicrococcus" to accommodate them with Neomicrococcus aestuarii gen. nov., comb. nov. (JCM 16166T =KCTC 19557T) as type species. Neomicrococcus lactis comb. nov. (Type strain: MCC 2278T = DSM 23694T) is also proposed.

A novel bacterial strain, 29Y89BT, was isolated from a faecal sample of a healthy human subject. ... more A novel bacterial strain, 29Y89BT, was isolated from a faecal sample of a healthy human subject. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, motile, non-spore-forming and rod-shaped. Strain 29Y89BT formed cream-coloured colonies 2 mm in diameter on trypticase soy agar and showed optimum growth at 35 °C. Strain 29Y89BT showed highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Pantoea gaviniae A18/07T (98.4 %) followed by Pantoea calida 1400/07T (97.2 %). Multi-locus sequence analysis using atpD (ATP synthase β subunit), gyrB (DNA gyrase), infB (initiation translation factor 2) and rpoB (RNA polymerase β subunit) genes also supported the result of 16S rRNA gene sequence based phylogeny. Strain 29Y89BT showed 62 and 40.7 % DNA-DNA relatedness with P. calida DSM 22759T and P. gaviniae DSM 22758T. Strain 29Y89BT contained C17 : 0 cyclo, C19 : 0 cyclo ω8c, C16 : 0, C14 : 0 and C12 : 0 as predominant fatty acids. In addition, strain 29Y89BT showed physiological and phenotypic differences from its closest relatives P. gaviniae DSM 22758T and P. calida DSM 22759T. The polar lipid profile mainly comprised phospholipids. The DNA G+C content was 59.1 mol%. Thus, based on the findings of the current study, strain 29Y89BT showed clear delineations from its closest relatives P. gaviniae DSM 22758T and P. calida DSM 22759T, and is thus considered to represent a novel species of the genus Pantoea, for which the name Pantoea intestinalis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 29Y89BT ( = DSM 28113T = MCC 2554T).
Hypertension is an important modifi able cardiovascular risk factor. Left ventricular hypertrophy... more Hypertension is an important modifi able cardiovascular risk factor. Left ventricular hypertrophy - the marker of hypertension, has emerged as an independent risk factor that can be detected by electrocardiography (ECG)and echocardiography (ECHO). Correlation of electrocardiography and echocardiographically detected left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertensive patients. Hundred patients with hypertension were studied for left ventricular hypertrophy by the help of electrocardiography and echocardiography. Left ventricular hypertrophy on ECG was assessed by the help of Sokolow-Lyon Voltage Criteria (SLV) and Romhilt - Estes Point Score (R/E). Among 100 patients, 60 were males and 40 were females. Mean age for male was 54.82 + or - 12.10 years and 52.95 + or - 11.63 years for female. The mean systolic blood pressure for male was 150.47 + or - 20 mmHg and for female 148.60 + or - 16.95 mmHg; where as Diastolic blood pressure for male was 93.67 + or - 11.13 mmHg and for female it was 96...

The incidence of oral cancer is high in certain parts of the world including Southeast Asia. Smok... more The incidence of oral cancer is high in certain parts of the world including Southeast Asia. Smokeless tobacco and areca nut chewing is proposed as a possible factor. Cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) receptors are present on neoplastic cells and are proposed to participate in initiation, transformation, progression and metastasis of cancer. In a prospective case-controlled study, 42 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity, 13 cases of oral premalignant lesions, and oral mucosa from 32 normal subjects were evaluated for COX-2 gene expression using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. The mean age of the patients with oral cancer was 60.2 years. The majority of cancer patients were males while the majority of controls were females. A significantly higher expression of COX-2 was found in cancer patients compared to both normal controls (p=0.0001) and patients with premalignant lesions (0.015). The expression in premalignant lesions was higher compared to healthy subject...
