According to Kaplan and Norton (2007:3), the balanced scorecard is a framework that helps organisations to translate strategy into operational objectives that drive both behaviour and performance. The balanced scorecard converts strategy into an integrated system defined across your company strategy. Moreover Strictland (2011) defines the balanced scorecard as a multi-dimensional framework for describing, implementing and managing strategy at all levels of an enterprise by linking objectives, measures and initiatives to the firm's strategy. The scorecard provides an enterprise view of an organisation's overall performance by integrating financial measures with other key performance indicators around customer perspectives, internal business processes, organisational growth, learning and innovation. The balanced scorecard was originally developed as a performance measurement tool, the scorecard is now associated increasingly with strategy implementation. The study was conducted at two schools in the Omusati region, the sample of the study consisted of twenty learners and four teachers. A mixed research design was used in collecting the data. The findings show that there is a correlation between class size and learners’ performances, small class sizes perform better than large class size. However given different teaching pedagogies for large class size, learners in large class could perform very well irrespective of their class size. It is therefore recommended that teachers align their teaching methods with the class size to ensure an effective teaching and learning process.
