The current work presents an approach to capture topics’ evolution across time and helps learners by recommending events from the chronology on a given topic, based on a subset of 24 years of the CVLR. Our method combines techniques from information retrieval, topic modeling using LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation), and recommender systems to improve e-learning centered on Romanian literature. The most frequent topics in each year are ranked in order to identify and visualize the main interests in literature across time periods. Recommendations are performed in order to facilitate the exploration of the chronology, as it is currently indexed only by event dates.

The three books have been generally well received, and although almost every chronicle included a fair quantity of criticism, they acknowledged the author's "robust" talent, his ability to build strong narrative conflicts, and his particular style, which was to become unmistakable. Some pieces of his storytelling failed to be totally adequate to the reality of that time (socialist realism) and exhibited a certain attachment to the past, visible in his passion for evoking human relationships within the Romanian village before the Liberation (from the fascist occupation). Therefore, the "reception" of the artistic message, the chronicles, reviews, or critical studies that have been dedicated to the literature in these first volumes should be regarded with a certain circumspection, w...

However, În văpaia luniirepresents a favourable moment in the writer's work and biography, which is why the author of the present article (incidentally) considered it to be the critics' "second shout" -with a symbolic reference to the novel Îngerul a strigat (The Angel has shouted–transl. mine). Even though not fully favourable, the first "shout" was more than profitable for the young writer whose first volumes had sparked intense controversies. Fănuș Neagu had gained a capital of sympathy, unusual for those times. Despite the differences of opinion entertained by the cultural media, the incisive author had succeeded in creating a favourable "image" for h...

Right after December 1989, hundreds of newspapers, magazines and other kinds of publications appeared in Romania. Likewise, the number of publishing houses grew exponentially, from a few scores to thousands of titles. During the following years, the first private radio stations started broadcasting and, shortly after them, commercial televisions surpassed the national television in terms of rating. The journalistic career was embraced by thousands of people activating in all sectors of the media, who did not always have specialist studies in the field. As a natural consequence, the first faculties of journalism appeared and grew in number around the country. During this time, the professional elites emerged, yet the criteria of selection were disarmingly diverse, mostly targeting vocation and rather than, marginally, education. Our research aims to address this paradoxical situati...

This has been made possible by the evolution of tools (alphabets, writing, equipments, new media) falling into this field. Together with thinking/speaking as oral aspects, writing on various materials has generated a parallel universe: literature. It has drawn our attention to our inner imaginary world, a product of pure fiction or a result of fantasy. Its impact has been so strong that it seems to be… demiurgic. Promoted to the rank of art, developed on aesthetic and stylistic principles, imbued with spirit, literature has become a luminous path to the humanity within us. Literature is revealed to us as "the Bodiless Beauty", because it exists in a virtual environment. The revolution of the communication technologies and the invention of intelligent, information-providing media have triggered a complete recon...

These changes may be caused by either progressive accumulation or a major crisis. The latter applies to Romania, who-after being a communist country-grew into a democracy as a result of a popular uprising. The dictatorship and its effects became the favourite topic of discussion in many debates-political, economic, social, or cultural-whose protagonists asserted their various opinions in the name of democracy or general usefulness. The participation in these debates was also exceptional-from well-meaning but resentful people, lucid and/or visionaries, to crypto-communists, apocalyptic and even alienated people. That explains the absence of consensus. The respective period of time was coined as "an endless transition", a term which covered all the masked avatars of Romanian society (and of the literary phenomenon, too).

C?linescu" Institute of Literary History and Theory to present the most important literature-related events from Romania, covering a period of 50 years, starting with World War II up until the beginning of the 3rd century. Our work aims to capture the evolution of trends in the Romanian literary space using a custom LDA topic model, focused also on the changes in the structure of topics across time, as well as the relations between the topics. In the Trends Over Time approach, the discovery of topics is related not only to the co-occurrences of words, but also to the timestamps associated to events (temporal information). Our results depicting the dynamics of trends over time are interesting both from an e-learning perspective, but also from literary and historical perspectives. Patterns of co-occurrences are discovered and visualizations of the topics' evolu...
