To overcome this problem, various methods have been introduced, including phytoremediation treatment. Therefore, this phytoremediation study examined the ability of five aquatic plants—Centella asiatica, Ipomoea aquatica, Salvinia molesta, Eichhornia crassipes, and Pistia stratiotes—to remove three pollutants—total suspended solids (TSS), ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), and phosphate—from aquaculture wastewater. Using wastewater samples, each containing 50 g of one of the plants, the pollutant levels were measured every two days for 14 days. The results showed a drastic decline in the concentration of pollutants, where C. asiatica was able to remove 98% of NH3-N, 90% of TSS, and 64% of phosphate, while I. aquatica showed the potential to eliminate up to 73% of TSS and NH3-N, and 50% of phosphate. P, K, Ca and Mg of buckwheat was measured following the application of green manure from four growth stages of soybean with and without a bio-decomposer. The relative uptake rates (RURs) for all nutrient elements increased with the increasing relative growth rates (RGRs) of buckwheat. Although all RURs were linearly and positively correlated with RGRs, none of the homogeneity tests of the regression coefficients was significant. In absolute terms, all RURs were lower than RGRs with the exception of N with the bio-decomposer. There was a strong positive linear relationship between N and the coefficients of P, K, Ca and Mg during the green manure treatments both in the presence and absence of the bio-decomposer. Despite the reduced nutrient utilization efficiencies observed, the nutrient harvest indices of the crop were reasonably high. Crop yied ranged between 0.7 to 2.8g / pot. The crop recovered 24.0% N from the green manure when applied alone and 39.1 - 61.8% N when the green manure was combined with splitted ammonium sulphate. Splitting the ammonium sulphate at 2 : I : 1 favoured higher seed and stover yields, whilst that at 1 : 2 : 1 enhanced better dry matter and seed nitrogen content.
