Phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1) catalyzes the reversible transfer of a phosphoryl group from 1, ... more Phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1) catalyzes the reversible transfer of a phosphoryl group from 1, 3-bisphosphoglycerate (1, 3-BPG) to ADP, producing 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PG) and ATP. PGK1 plays a key role in coordinating glycolytic energy production with one-carbon metabolism, serine biosynthesis, and cellular redox regulation. Here, we report that PGK1 is acetylated at lysine 220 (K220), which inhibits PGK1 activity by disrupting the binding with its substrate, ADP. We have identified KAT9 and HDAC3 as the potential acetyltransferase and deacetylase, respectively, for PGK1. Insulin promotes K220 deacetylation to stimulate PGK1 activity. We show that the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway regulates HDAC3 S424 phosphorylation, which promotes HDAC3-PGK1 interaction and PGK1 K220 deacetylation. Our study uncovers a previously unknown mechanism for the insulin and mTOR pathway in regulation of glycolytic ATP production and cellular redox potential via HDAC3-mediated PGK1 deacetylation.

Comparisons of the DNA sequences of unrelated ARS elements from different regions of the genome have revealed no significant DNA sequence conservation. We have compared the sequences of seven pairs of homologous ARS elements from two Saccharomyces species, S. cerevisiae and S. carlsbergensis. In all but one case, the ARS308-ARS308(carl) pair, significant blocks of homology were detected. In the cases of ARS305, ARS307, and ARS309, previously identified functional elements were found to be conserved in their S. carlsbergensis homologs. Mutation of the conserved sequences in the S. carlsbergensis ARS elements revealed that the homologous sequences are required for function. This paper reports fabrication and characterization of on-chip RF inductors with integrated Ni-Zn... more This paper reports fabrication and characterization of on-chip RF inductors with integrated Ni-Zn ferrite films using a novel powder-mixed-photoresist coating technique. Well crystallized Ni0.3Zn0.6Cu0.1Fe2O4 powders are mixed into photoresist and then coated on top of RF inductor spirals for performance improvement. This new low-temperature fabrication method is developed to eliminate any damage introduced by conventional high temperature process (>600degC) used in fabricating ferrite-integrated RF IC inductors. Measurement results show that, compared with air-cored inductor, the inductance (L) of ferrite film inductors increases by 14-27% across 0.1-4GHz range. This work demonstrates a promising way to fabricate ferrite-integrated high-performance on-chip RF inductors in CMOS technology for RF SoC designs.

Effects of O2 ambient on structural, optical and electrical properties of the HfO2 films were investigated by deploying x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ultraviolet visible spectroscopy, I-V and C-V characteristics. Results show that the O2 ambient deposited HfO2 films exhibited excellent structural, optical and electrical properties as compared with vacuum ambient HfO2 films, which especially performs a low content of metal Hf, a high transmittance, a low leakage current and a high dielectric constant.

We identified a subset of patients who had posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI) following c... more We identified a subset of patients who had posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI) following corrective osteotomy for asymptomatic cubitus varus deformity. We aimed to identify risk factors for PLRI in such patients by comparing this subgroup to patients who did not demonstrate PLRI following osteotomy. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records and radiographs of 22 patients with cubitus varus that underwent corrective osteotomy at our institution between 2003 and 2010. All patients underwent surgery for cosmetic reasons, and no patient reported functional problems such as PLRI or ulnar nerve symptoms pre-operatively. We sought to identify differences between those that experienced an increase in PLRI after osteotomy (PLRI group) and those that did not (non-PLRI group) with regard to demographics, degree of deformity, amount of surgical correction, and final outcomes. Five patients had PLRI after osteotomy, and all five subsequently underwent lateral ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction using a triceps tendon graft. No statistically significant difference was observed between the PLRI and non-PLRI groups in terms of demographics, degree of deformity, amount of surgical correction, range of motion, and final Mayo Elbow Performance Index (MEPI) and the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) scores. However, the PLRI group had marginally greater medial displacement of the distal fragment. This study demonstrates that PLRI can become apparent after corrective osteotomy for cubitus varus in the absence of clinical symptoms of instability preoperatively. We suggest that careful examination for PLRI should be performed after surgical correction for cubitus varus deformity, and surgeons should be prepared to proceed with simultaneous reconstruction of the lateral ligaments of the elbow.

Ferrite nanomaterial applied in RF on-chip inductors is prepared and analyzed to show the properties of high permeability, high ferromagnetic resonance frequency, high resistivity, and low loss, which has the potential that will improve the performance of RF on-chip inductors. Simulations of different coil and ferrite nanomaterial parameters, inductor structures, and surrounding structures are also conducted to achieve the trend of gains of inductance and quality factor of on-chip inductors. By integrating the prepared ferrite magnetic nanomaterial to the on-chip inductors with different structures, the measurement performances show an obvious improvement even in GHz frequency range. In addition, the studies of CMOS compatible process to integrate the nanomaterial promote the widespread application of magnetic nanomaterial in RF on-chip inductors.

ABSTRACT Ni0.4Cu0.2Zn0.4Fe2O4 thin films were fabricated on Si substrates by using the sol-gel me... more ABSTRACT Ni0.4Cu0.2Zn0.4Fe2O4 thin films were fabricated on Si substrates by using the sol-gel method and rapid thermal annealing (RTA), and their magnetic properties and crystalline structures were investigated. The samples calcined at and above 600 °C have a single-phase spinel structure and the average grain size of the sample calcined at 600°C is about 20 nm. The initial permeability μ i , saturation magnetization M s and coercivity H c of the samples increase with the increasing calcination temperature. The sample calcined at 600°C exhibits an excellent soft magnetic performance, which has μ i =33.97 (10 MHz), H c=15.62 Oe and M s=228.877 emu/cm3. Low-temperature annealing can enhance the magnetic properties of the samples. The work shows that using the sol-gel method in conjunction with RTA is a promising way to fabricate integrated thin-film devices.
ABSTRACT By means of SEM, TEM, UV-VIS optical transmission spectra and photoluminescence spectra ... more ABSTRACT By means of SEM, TEM, UV-VIS optical transmission spectra and photoluminescence spectra tests, hetero-epitaxial defects and optical characteristics of SiCGe layers grown on 6H-SiC substrate were studied. SEM and TEM images have shown that the SiCGe were grown in layer-by-layer mode with APD and DPB defects which were caused by the thermal and lattice mismatches between SiCGe and SiC. Transmission spectra results have shown the calculated band gap of the SiCGe layer was 2.31eV. Room temperature photoluminescence spectra have shown that the peak wavelength and the FWHM of SiCGe layer were closely related to its Ge contents and the hetero-epitaxial defects.

ABSTRACT Ni0.4Cu0.2Zn0.4Fe2O4 thin films were fabricated on Si substrates by using the sol-gel me... more ABSTRACT Ni0.4Cu0.2Zn0.4Fe2O4 thin films were fabricated on Si substrates by using the sol-gel method and rapid thermal annealing (RTA), and their magnetic properties and crystalline structures were investigated. The samples calcined at and above 600 °C have a single-phase spinel structure and the average grain size of the sample calcined at 600°C is about 20 nm. The initial permeability μ i , saturation magnetization M s and coercivity H c of the samples increase with the increasing calcination temperature. The sample calcined at 600°C exhibits an excellent soft magnetic performance, which has μ i =33.97 (10 MHz), H c=15.62 Oe and M s=228.877 emu/cm3. Low-temperature annealing can enhance the magnetic properties of the samples. The work shows that using the sol-gel method in conjunction with RTA is a promising way to fabricate integrated thin-film devices.
ABSTRACT By means of SEM, TEM, UV-VIS optical transmission spectra and photoluminescence spectra ... more ABSTRACT By means of SEM, TEM, UV-VIS optical transmission spectra and photoluminescence spectra tests, hetero-epitaxial defects and optical characteristics of SiCGe layers grown on 6H-SiC substrate were studied. SEM and TEM images have shown that the SiCGe were grown in layer-by-layer mode with APD and DPB defects which were caused by the thermal and lattice mismatches between SiCGe and SiC. Transmission spectra results have shown the calculated band gap of the SiCGe layer was 2.31eV. Room temperature photoluminescence spectra have shown that the peak wavelength and the FWHM of SiCGe layer were closely related to its Ge contents and the hetero-epitaxial defects.
