Understand diversity, equality and inclusion in own area of responsibility 1.1 Explain models of practice that underpin equality, diversity and inclusion in own area of responsibility Equality and diversity are being part of the fundamental British values. Understanding and acknowledging the British values we conclude they are underpinning and form the base, the structure of all the guides and Acts elaborated by the Parliament to create a law fulfilling in the society. Relaying on this values we can prevent, challenge and fight the discrimination. We are making sure that us and the rest of the individuals can develop in their own moral, cultural and spiritual way within the social plan which is ruled by the law. Equality-is about creating a fair society where everyone can participate and has the same opportunity to fulfil their potential. Equality is backed by legislation (Equality Act 2010 designed to address unfair discrimination and harassment to advance equality of opportunity and good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. There are protected age" disability" gender reassignment" marriage and civil partnership" pregnancy and maternity religion and belief or sexual orientation. Diversity-literally means difference. Diversity acknowledges and values the full range of differences between people both in the workplace and in wider society. Diversity acknowledges that entry into the workplace and an individual realising their potential once there can be influenced by a range of factors beyond the characteristics included within equality legislation, including social, economic and educational background, professional background, hierarchical level, working style, nationality etc. Inclusion-refers to an individual's experience within the workplace and in wider society and the extent to which they feel valued and included. Inclusion ensures everyone has access to resources" rights" goods and services. We can value diversity In many different ways these are just a few that I use to help residents. Finding out about peoples' different backgrounds and skills. Listening hard to different viewpoints and perspectives. Treating people as individuals, not as representatives of a group. Creating opportunities to interact with people who are different. Actively supporting people who are treated unfairly because they are different. Avoiding jokes/ comments at the expense of minority groups. In my work setting we prevent discrimination in all its forms and between all our residents and members of staff, offering same possibilities and chances to everyone. A prove that we succeed is the range of the nationality and sexes of our members of staff working, the good ambient between the colleagues, the wellbeing of our residents and the family. For our residents we are preventing discrimination, oppression and social exclusion, working in partnership following the agreed ways of working within the law, and providing care and support that meet the needs of the individual. Having a high level of training, having enough staff to cover all the needs, using proper equipment
