We discuss Bahrain's multidimensional approach to the development of a sufficiently diverse and efficient energy security architecture, capable of withstanding issues ranging from naturally occurring exhaustion of hydrocarbons deposits to a rising of regional threats of a loot-seeking insurgence. Good governance and diverse international cooperation is stressed upon as a precondition for successful energy security policy and its implementation. The author implies a need for a more proactive approach to the green energy sector, as it has a potential to attenuate Bahrain's dependence on fossil fuels. The review opens vista to opportunities for foreign and domestic investments in Bahrain's vibrant energy sector further curtaining risks associated with Energy Security in this fast changing environmental and geopolitical environment.

We believe that verbalizing threat to an economy through applicable dimensions carries benefits to the development of an efficient energy and environmental security policy. Thus, we shall review the economic targeting in the Kingdom of Bahrain by Shiite insurgents and assign corresponding threat dimensions and severity levels.

The relation between a social movement and space offers unique perspective into that social movement itself. Several dimensions of that relation can be observed in Occupy Diraz. It occupied a space that symbolised the movement's grievances; by occupying a space continuously, day and night, it shaded the light to a chasm that separated Shiite and Sunni members of society and offered a pole of attraction to those who identified with grievances and interests of the Shiites in Bahrain; it provided a territory in which occupiers had a choice between remaining within the matrix of the religious-sectarian hierarchy or attempting to construct a community based on principle of horizontality (complete openness of participation and no formal leadership); and it engaged in confrontation over the occupation of space with the agents of the state. The paper shows how the Occupy Diraz movement founded on the ideals of radical Islam leads to the prefiguration of a radical Islamic protostate in a space it possesses and controls. The paper provides a rationale for criticism of Occupy Diraz for emphasising the possession of space and doctrinal aspect of ideology espoused by occupiers over an opportunity to expand on the principles of horizontality, embracing reform and principles of democracy. Keywords: occupy movement, no-go zone, social movement, mobilisation, sectarian conflict, radicalism, GCC, Bahrain

The political upheaval that initially found a buttress in Muscovite urban middle classes soon transcended all social strata and geography ending dominance of the Communist Party in Russia. However, the mass protests in opposition to authoritarian rule that gained energy in 2011has failed to generate the same momentum necessary to unite diverse social and political classes and topple the ruling regime. In both cases, social Networks of communication played an important role in the evolution of contentious politics because they connected actors across space, facilitated communication, exchanged information on tactics and strategies, and produced new knowledge. However, it is not clear exactly how such social networks interacted with other contextual factors to bring about a national protest movement of su cient proportions to topple an authoritarian regime. Drawing on evidence from the popular protests in the Russian Federation between 2011 and 2014, surveys conducted among quiescent citizens, participants in popular protest and digital activists, this paper argues that social media (1) allowed a “digital activists” to form personal networks that initially circumvented the national media narrative by brokering information for outside mainstream media; (2) helped to overcome the “free rider” problem of collective action by catalyzing anger-frustration and reporting the magnitude of protest events; and (3) contributed in the formation of a collective identity supportive of protest activity that transcended geographical and socio-economic disparities by providing a shared, mobilizing element of emotional grievance; (4) the internet based social networks have failed to produce results exemplified by Twitter and Facebook revolutions of the Arab Spring, and eject regime change in the Russian Federation or make tangible impact on domestic policies.

In Politics and Economics of the Insurgence in Bahrain, Vladimir Remmer analyzes the political economy of religious-sectarian intra-state conflict in connection to contemporary theory of Instruments of National Power. This approach provides valuable insight on legitimization, mobilization, and operationalization of the indigenous surrogate force where nation-states and non-state actors compete for influence over target audiences for the opportunity to advance ideological and economic interests. In search for answers to nature and persistence of the conflict, Remmer reviews organizational structure and legitimacy. He dissects pertinent economic, political, and ethno-anthropological causes. Throughout the process, the author strongly emphasizes the Shiite community as an innocent victim of predation by an agent engaged in a political-ideological act of state-capture. The conflict mitigation recommendations evolve from discussion of select instruments of national power as a case appropriate artifice targeting root-cause of the insurgence.
