This paper presents & shares revamp and troubleshooting experience of three different CO2 removal... more This paper presents & shares revamp and troubleshooting experience of three different CO2 removal systems in Ammonia plants with a payback of only few months. Two of them included Benfield systems and one used MDEA: Piperazine system. One of the Ammonia plant operated above its design limits at twice the original nameplate capacity using the original Absorber and Stripping Columns. This plant experienced excessive CO2 slip (up to 3000 ppmv) resulting in loss of production and efficiency along with reduced reliability. The other two CO2 removal systems experienced excessive carry over resulting in reduced plant capacity and efficiency due to excessive pressure drop build up reduced pressure of the syngas compressor in less than three months. This required short plant shutdown to clean up after every three months which also resulted in additional loss of Ammonia production with reduced reliability. This operation continued for several years before the revamp.
