Ulrike Matis, Dr. med. vet. Dr. med. vet. habil., Dipl. ECVSProfessor of SurgeryDr. Matis graduated from the University of Munich in 1970, and obtained a Dr. med. vet. degree in 1972 and a Dr. med. vet. habil. (PhD) degree in 1981 from the same university. Dr. Matis was Professor of Surgery and Head of the Department of Surgery (including Ophthalmology and Radiology) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich from 1989 until her retirement in 2011. Since then she has been a consultant in a private companion animal clinic and has been active as a speaker and instructor at national and international veterinary courses and congresses. Dr. Matis was President of AO Vet International (1996 – 1998), President of the European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology (1998 – 2000) and President of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (2005 – 2006). In 2001, she received the WSAVA Saki Paatsama International Award and in 2016 the Honorary Membership of ESVOT. Dr. Matis has published numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters in the field of companion animal surgery. She is co-editor of two radiology textbooks and two German editions of English-language textbooks on small animal orthopaedic surgery and has given more than 800 talks and lectures.
