Cuenta con la colaboración del Entomólogo Thiago Mahlmann y la lic. Ivana García. La colección se encuentra en la ciudad de San Carlos de Bariloche. Está integrada por más de 500 ejemplares digitalizados, com aproximadamente 30 géneros y 20 especies identificadas, en su mayoría abejas, avispas y hormigas.

Abstract Global biodiversity declines and concomitant increases in diseases and calamities indica... more Abstract Global biodiversity declines and concomitant increases in diseases and calamities indicate the need for well-founded measures to provide sustainable development, guaranteeing material progress and social welfare, while safeguarding biodiversity. Public policies are important in this context as they provide norms for actions to deal with economic and socio-ecological problems. Nevertheless, scientists and legislators have conflicting opinions; perhaps due to lack of knowledge on both sides. Scientists provide information that is never used by legislators and legislators provide laws that do not provide biodiversity protection. Review and understanding of local legislation are thus crucial to understand those relationships and to provide robust suggestions for change. Here, we review Brazilian legislation concerning pollinator-relevant policies to show how these subnational policies fit calls from the science community. We also compared Brazilian legislation related to pollinator and biome protection to legislation in other countries. We found 314 national, state, and municipal laws on apiculture, meliponiculture, economic incentives, pesticides, pollinator awareness, and city planning. Although scientists are producing high-quality science to provide information for legislative standards, that information is not being used. Brazilian policies are numerous, but, in general, lack the standards to provide sustainable conservation. The main flaws are related to the lack of knowledge about non-bee pollinators, integrated pest management and GM crop risks, and lack of long-term monitoring of pollinators and pollination. More comprehensive and interdisciplinary legislation is needed to accomplish crop and biodiversity protection. Brazilian scientists should be consulted more often and participate in proposals for laws relating to pollinator conservation.

This paper provided a list of all new Brazilian Hexapoda species described in 2020. Furthermore, ... more This paper provided a list of all new Brazilian Hexapoda species described in 2020. Furthermore, based on the information extracted by this list, we tackled additional questions regarding the taxa, the specialists involved in the species descriptions as well as the journals in which those papers have been published. We recorded a total of 680 new Brazilian species of Hexapoda described in 2020, classified in 245 genera, 112 families and 18 orders. These 680 species were published in a total of 2019 articles comprising 423 different authors residing in 27 countries. Only 30% of these authors are women, which demonstrates an inequality regarding sexes. In relation to the number of authors by species, the majority of the new species had two authors and the maximum of authors by species was five. The new species of Scaura is a widespread species, and its wide distribution may suggest that it is a species complex. In order to differentiate populations that could compose cryptic species, we studied the wing venation variation using geometric morphometrics in 56 workers, 23 of these from remaining of Atlantic Forest in Ceará state and 33 from the Amazon region. Bees from Atlantic Forest differed of the bees from Amazon region, corresponding to 38.05% of total variation (principal components analysis), 100% of canonical variation and 52.93% of canonical variation between localities, with significant difference between populations in discriminant function analysis (p<0.001). The results suggest that the Atlantic Forest bees may be a new species. However, it is necessary more detailed morphological studies, and/or a molecular analysis to confirm this possibility.

Identifying and knowing these insects responsible for the environmental service of pollination is essential for the maintenance and management of pollination in agricultural systems, especially in a high diversity biome as the Amazon rainforest. Some crops in this region are dependent of benefited by wild pollinators, especially native plants like guarana. To address methodological aspects of monitoring bee diversity, samplings were carried out in an agricultural environment (guarana crop, Paullinia cupana) surrounded by Amazon natural habitat at Manaus, Amazonas State. We used three combined methods (two passive traps: Malaise and yellow pan-traps, and one active: hand nets) in different periods, with the same number of samplings (12 each). Most of these monotypic genera are known from a few specimens used to describe its species and then remain without further records. Here we were able to enlarge the distribution knowledge of a monotypic genera making the first record of Parsteres pilosus Gadelha, Nunes & Oliveira, 2016, to the Atlantic Forest biome at Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.

Additionally, an overview of the current geographic records for the three known species of the subgenus is presented. We expand the distribution of Hylaeus (Gongyloprosopis) orbicus (Vachal, 1910), the male is illustrated, and the first floral association with Vismia japurensis Reichardt (Hypericaeae) is reported for this species.

This research was conducted between May and July 2017, in the municipality of Tangará da Serra, Mato Grosso, Brazil, to assess the Cerrado from the perspective of it being a crucial habitat to sustain the sunflower-pollinating bees (Helianthus annuus L.). The bees were sampled using entomological nets and pan traps, in specifically marked out plots (20 m x 150 m), in the Cerrado, and in a sunflower crop, at different distances from the Cerrado border. The assessment was done in terms of the composion and species richness, abundance of individuals and the mass (g) of the sunflower chapters exposed and isolated from the floral visitors. O presente estudo avaliou o padrão de nidificação da vespa Monobia angulosa Saussure (Vespidae: Eumeninae) no pólo agrícola Mucugê-Ibicoara, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, durante período de seca prolongada, bem como, a descrição do ninho natural da espécie como o primeiro registro de ninho de M. angulosa construído em ninho abandonado da abelha Xylocopa (Neoxylocopa) cearensis Ducke (Apidae: Xylocopinae). Para o registro e descrição do ninho natural, um único ninho de M. angulosa foi estudado em um pomar de maçã (Malus domestica Borkh). Para o estudo do padrão de nidificação foi utilizada a técnica de ninhos armadilha, sendo amostrados 25 pontos ao longo do pólo agrícola, com as armadilhas postas em remanescentes de vegetação nativa.
