Some developments are created in terms of bow shapes to obtain the minimum shipping cost. The purpose of this study is to compare the total resistance (Rt) and specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC) in an 8000 DWT oil tanker by modifying the existing moor deep ram bow to axe bow using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and empirical Holtrop method. Based on the results, the total resistance with a moor deep ram bow design at a service speed of 12 knots is 230,8 kN, while axe bow is 221,5 kN. This is directly proportional to the fuel consumption where by using axe bow, the ship will consume 83.64 tons in a trip of 1912 nautical miles. In contrast, with existing moor deep ram bow, the fuel consumption is just a slight 0.1 % higher than axe bow and still showing a competitive performance as it is generally used in cargo vessel.

Karena lokasi geographis yang berbatasan dengan laut ini, maka sebagian penduduk Desa Marabombang berprofesi sebagai nelayan. Berbagai macam alat tangkap digunakan oleh masyarakat desa untuk mendapatkan ikan baik dengan menggunakan kapal maupun dengan bagan. Namun demikian, nelayan Desa Marabombang menghadapi kendala utama dalam melakukan aktivitasnya yakni semakin tingginya biaya bahan bakar atau energi. Hal ini lebih disebabkan karena posisinya yang tepat berada di depan Selat Makassar bagian Selatan yang kurang mempunyai sejarah seismik yang cukup signifikan untuk membangkitkan tsunami. By reducing the resistance, it will affect the energy usage on the boat. One way to reduce the boat resistance is by installing a stern flap to the stern. Stern flap is a new addition on the stern appendage. Previous studies, the stern flap was able to reduce the resistance. The reduction of resistance occurred on boats can reduce fuel consumption, so it can be one of the innovations in combating the energy crisis. This study used an experimental method that analyzes the position and size of the stern flap, where each position and size of the flap were tested at the same load.
