We report the findings of preliminary investigation corresponding to an optical detection techniq... more We report the findings of preliminary investigation corresponding to an optical detection technique implementing smartphone as our receiver towards quantitative assessment of heavy metal ions, namely, Cu, Zn, and Ni. Using intensity modulation, the optical responses are attained through a user-friendly app. The sensing region is made up of optical fiber whose cladding portion has been etched. Subject to varying concentrations of these metal ions, the modulated responses are attained, which reveal a declining trend. The absence of traditional parts such as a spectrophotometer makes the reported scheme cost-effective as well as field-portable.

As migration is a process which is reported to have been going on since time immemorial, the Nagas too could not have isolated themselves from being a part of the mass odyssey from their homeland with the anticipation of exploring and settling in naturally upgraded habitats. Hence today, the Nagas have been found to inhabit the banks of Chindwin and Irawaddy Rivers in Myanmar, and Nagaland in India. As far as their language is concerned, it is said to be an affiliate of the greater branch of Sino-Tibetan besides sharing certain similarities with Tibeto-Burman languages. As for the etymology of the word Naga is concerned, it is said to have been derived from either of the Sanskrit word namely Nagna or Nag with respective meanings ‘naked’ or ‘mountain. Indoor pollution has of late risen considerably which leads to several adverse health effects. To... more Indoor pollution has of late risen considerably which leads to several adverse health effects. To combat this gradual rise in indoor pollution, there has been various developments. Accordingly, the present work throws light on the development of a novel sensor with the capacity for precise detection of volatile gas. The sensor comprises of clad modified optical fiber with SnO2:Cuo. With a limit of detection (LOD) of 10 ppm, the current sensor outperforms other sensors already reported in literatures. Ensuring a suitable tweaking with Arduino, the sensor gets laced with the provision of wireless adaptability so that readout can be obtained in remote conditions too.
