This paper presents the design of an ultra wideband low noise amplifier (UWB LNA). The proposed U... more This paper presents the design of an ultra wideband low noise amplifier (UWB LNA). The proposed UWB LNA employs common gate and common source stages configured as a current reuse topology. The UWB LNA has a maximum gain of 14 dB with minimum NF of 3.0 dB. Good input and output impedance matching are achieved over the operating frequency band. The proposed UWB LNA consumes only 2.0 mW from a 0.9V power supply. This UWB LNA is designed and simulated in the standard 0.18 μm CMOS technology.

ABSTRACT This paper describes the design of 5-GHz fully integrated CMOS class-E single-ended powe... more ABSTRACT This paper describes the design of 5-GHz fully integrated CMOS class-E single-ended power amplifier (PA) for wireless transmitter applications in a 0.18-μm CMOS technology. The proposed class-E PA employs the cascode topology with a self-biasing technique to reduce device stress. Three cascaded class-D driver amplifiers are used to actualize the sharp switching at the class-E power stage. All device components are integrated on chip and the chip area is 1.0×1.3 mm2. The measurement results indicate that the PA delivers 16.4 dBm output power and 35.4 % power-added efficiency with 2.3 V power supply voltage into a 50 Ω load.

ABSTRACT In this paper, a novel compact UWB, low-profile monopole rectangular dielectric resonato... more ABSTRACT In this paper, a novel compact UWB, low-profile monopole rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) is proposed using relatively low dielectric constant substrate material (Rogers RT/Duroid 3010 εr = 10.2) and developed for cognitive radio (CR) spectrum sensing wireless communications applications. UWB operation is achieved by converting RDRA to monopole RDRA by finite ground plane which leads to a wider operating bandwidth. The proposed UWB monopole RDRA with finite ground plane produced an impedance bandwidth about 141 % covering a huge band for CR spectrum sensing. The proposed antenna is designed to operate over a frequency range from 3.1 to 18 GHz and the radiation patterns are stable over the operating frequency range. The frequency characteristics and radiation performance of the proposed antenna are successfully optimized with numerical experimentation techniques using 3D full-wave electromagnetic simulator Ansoft HFSS. Moreover, the proposed design is implemented using three dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) method for verification purposes. The obtained FDTD and simulation results are in good agreement.

The rectenna is composed of a one-sided directional flexible antenna and a booster rectifying circuit that is composed of a series resonant circuit and a Cockcroft-walton circuit. The proposed one-sided directional flexible antenna has a bottom floating metal layer that enables one-sided radiation. The booster rectifying circuit has an output of 3.5V DC for an input of 200mV and a 50-Ω power source at 920MHz.

In order to realize the one sided radiation, quarter wavelength resonance was generated on the antenna metal plane. Moreover, in order to optimize the frequency bandwidth, 2-stage band-pass filter (BPF) was connected on the antenna plane. Our proposed slot antenna was designed and simulated by using commercial three-dimensional electro magnetic (EM) field simulator. Also, we fabricated this one-sided directional antenna on FR4 substrate and measured the frequency characteristics. The size our proposed antenna is 23.6mm × 12.2mm, and simulated maximum front to back (F/B) ratio is 9dB.

The mixer which have implemented is based on bulk-driven mixer which is known for its low power operation. On the other hand, that mixer has a demerit of poor linearity. The architecture of the proposed mixer employs DS (Derivative Superposition) method to achieve high linearity remaining in low power consumption. The proposed design has been fabricated using TSMC 0.18μm CMOS process. The measured IIP3 shows 6.38 dBm. A conversion gain shows -7.49 dB, and power consumption of 3.54 mW.

The simulation results of binary-weighted TLDAC show 50 % reduction in DNL and INL compared to conventional binary-weighted DAC. Furthermore an additional reference voltage source has been reduced due to the advantages of differential circuit. The proposed 10-bit differential TLDAC was implemented in 0.18 μm CMOS process and its total area is 0.081 mm2.
