Six parental lines and 15 F1 hybrids of cucumber obtained from half diallel were studied to inves... more Six parental lines and 15 F1 hybrids of cucumber obtained from half diallel were studied to investigate the extent of heterosis for yield and its contributing characters. P1 (DC-1), P4(CHC-1) and P6 (Poinsette) were observed to be three top performing parents for total yield per plant and they produced yield of 0.63 kg, 0.59 kg and 0.56 kg per plant, respectively. Appreciable heterosis was recorded over better parent and top parent for all the characters studied except length of the fruit. In order to merit F1 hybrids P1 x P5 (DC-1 x PCUC-8), P4x P5 (CHC-1 x PCUC-8) and P1 x P6 (DC-1 x Poinsette) were observed to be three best performing F1 hybrids for yield per plant. The highest yield recorded by these hybrids could be due to increased number of fruits, higher flesh thickness and higher fruit weight.
