Materials and Methods: NIPRD-AM1 is a phytomedicine developed from aqueous root extracts of Nauclea latifolia Smith (Rubiaceae) for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria. The effect of NIPRD-AM1 on CYP3A4 was measured with and without the addition of NIPRD-AM1, by testing different concentrations of the product at 37 °C in reactive mixtures with ketoconazole (2.5 µM) as the positive control. Results: Results showed a very low IC50 value of 0.01 mg/ml similar to that of ketoconazole (0.016 mg/ml). Conclusion: Metabolic processes of NIPRD-AM1 are likely to inhibit CYP3A4, with potential implication on drugs that are CYP3A4 substrates. This is a promising approach for guidance towards the safe and efficacious use of NIPRD-AM1.

Within day and betweenday assay variations was generally observed. The utility of the method was demonstrated by determine chlorpropamide in samples from human volunteers following a single oral dose of 250 mg in drug interaction studies. The procedure is simple and fast, requiring small volumes of plasma.

The extraction method is a simple single-step liquid-liquid process that has eliminated the need for costly extraction and evaporation equipment. The mobile phase consists largely of water, making the method cheap to run with less than 6 min total analytical time per sample. The calibration curve was linear from 0 to 2.00 µg/ml. The regression coefficient was 0.99. The method is highly sensitive, with limit of detection of 1 ng/ml. The coefficient of variation for within-day run was less than 4% while that of day-to-day run was less than 6%. There were no interfering peaks from endogenous materials in the serum. The method was validated and used for pharmacokinetic studies.

Studies were conducted to examine the effect of activated charcoal on the disposition kinetics of... more Studies were conducted to examine the effect of activated charcoal on the disposition kinetics of sulphadoxine after Fansidar administration. Activated charcoal caused a significant reduction in ka, half-life and AUC0-48hr from 1.4 to 0.7 hr, 256 to 117 hr and 2533 to 1346 mg/l/hr, respectively. Activated charcoal absorbed sulphadoxine effectively in vitro. Sulphadoxine, at a simulated highly toxic dose of 5 mg/ml, showed adsorption percentages of 23.06, 28.66, 41.24, 64 and 100 to amounts of activated charcoal of 12.5, 25, 50, 100 and 250 mg, respectively. The results show that activated charcoal effectively adsorbs sulphadoxine both in vitro and in vivo.

Poaceae], and "trona" The components were sourced from food dealers and herbalists prequalified as suppliers by the Institute's department of Medicinal Plant Research and Traditional Medicine (MPRTM), based on the criteria proposed by World Health Organization (WHO, 1998. Quality control methods for medicinal plant materials, pp. 1-115. Geneva: WHO) for the collection and handling of medicinal plant materials. The aim of the work is to establish limits for features that will influence decisions on the components. The paper describes and quantifies as per WHO guidelines of 1998 and British Pharmacopoeia (British Pharmacopoeia, 2004 . Volume IV. The Stationery Office Limited, London.
