This article attempts to give a brief portrayal of this fledgling movement and its moderate form of religious environmentalism. This study seeks to identify the factors responsible for this new environmentalist movement, the individuals behind it, and its impact in East Java. Through interviews and observations it is argued that the lora show moderation in propagating their concerns and empowering the community to take care of the environment as a manifestation of their Islamic eco-theological ethics. The informants responded to internal and external factors described in terms of their typology; participant, proponent, and activator. It is performed at the street to get donation for mosque(s) construction. However, local MUI (Majelis Ulama Indonesia; Indonesian Ulama Council) issued a legal regulation to forbid it. Catfish cultivation in the area has been running so good that it is also processed into the dried catfish. Catfish cultivation and its processed products can be highly potential goods to sell amid the community's economic difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Catfish, which has been so far known only as fish eaten with rice in a meal, can be further processed such as becoming dried fish. The dried fish can increase public interest due to its durability. It is generally believed that only men can initiate the divorce, whereas Quran also gives the same chance for women as told in QS. al-Baqarah (2): 229 through khulu’ concept. Therefore, this article is going to explore firstly the concept of divorce in Islam, including law and ethical procedures that related parties have to obey, particularly, husband and wife. The next discussion focuses on the concept of khulu’ and insights (method and rereading product of Quranic interpretation) among tafsir ahkam experts and feminists. As it stands today, three Madurese Qur’an translations have now been published consecutively, wit... more As it stands today, three Madurese Qur’an translations have now been published consecutively, with the more recent versions seeking to revise and refine their predecessors. However, each version has its own features and claim to authority based on the composition of the translation team, the translation itself, and its publication process. This chapter examines the contest for authority inherent in these translations by comparing them with respect to the translators’ motives, the make-up of the various translation teams, and the actual translation itself. It argues that the three versions not only reflect a chronological development and history of continuous revision, but also have different visions of their target readership and, accordingly, different strategies of rendering the text into Madurese. Thus, the three versions not only compete with each other, but also complement each other, fulfilling the needs of readers with different degrees of mastery of both Arabic and Madurese.
