The order Passeriformes is the most supplied with 24 species. Values of the total wealth of the birds recorded during the study period are 34 species in the station Mekhadema and 28 species in Hassi Ben Abdallah. The density of bird species varies from one station to another, between 0.5 and 44 couples in the station of Mekhadma and fluctuates between 0.5 and 42.5 couples in Hassi Ben Abdallah. The value of the diversity index of Shannon-Weaver applied to birds is 2.71 bits in the station of Mekhadma and 2.53 bits in the station of Hassi Ben Abdallah. The value of E is 0.58 in both stations.

We installed 10 pitfalls traps for the period going of January until June 2007, with 1 series per month. The total richness is 64 species (4.27 + 2.87). Two classes of arthropods are listed that of Arachnida and the insects. The latter is represented best with 57 species and 614 individuals. The order of the hymenopterans is best represented with 28 species and 476 individuals; it is followed by the coleopterans with 19 species and 55 individuals.

This species builds its nests in different formats found in their habitat. In the study area, this species prefers the date palm and olive with a number of 9 nests for each support a rate of 69.2 % of total nests identified.Orange with a number of nests 4 is second (15.4%). It was identified a single nest on Acacia (Acacia sp.), Phoenician juniper (Juniperus phoenicea), pomegranate (Punica granatum) and grapes (Vitis vinifera) Rate is 3.85% for each substrate. Regarding the direction of the nests, it should be noted that the Babbler fawn avoids the North because of prevailing winds. Nests are located in places where vegetation is dense, this site makes access and even the vision of the nest which is a difficult sort of security by preventing the penetration of predators. You can also find several nests in the same medium. The heights of the nests were recorded between 9...

A total of 35 species of birdswas recorded in this forest area. These species are distributed over 6 orders and 15 families. The Order Passeriformes was the most represented with 25 species and 9 families. The red Crossbill Loxia curvirostra wasthe most observed by means of progressive frequential sampling method with a percentage of 54.1% and the Greenfinch Fringilla coelebs wasthe most counted by the point count abundance indices with an IPA of 4.43.

Diets of two subspecies of Southern Grey Shrike, Lanius meridionalis algeriensis and Lanius meridionalis elegans, were respectively studied in the North of Algeria and in the South of the country in the Sahara. Pellets examination allowed to identify more than 200 ingested taxa (more than 1500 prey). There was a significant difference in diet between both studied subspecies (P < 0.001), due to the respective importance of Coleopteran and Orthopteran preys. In the North, algeriensis con- sumed mostly Coleoptera, while in South, in February, elegans ingested mostly Orthoptera. Hymenoptera are found in both diets in relatively important quantities. Explanations are required.
