Contrary to the dominant nominalist ideology, which privileges the multiple over the one and the ... more Contrary to the dominant nominalist ideology, which privileges the multiple over the one and the other over the same, the subversive gesture today consists in rehabilitating these two discredited philosophical concepts: the one and the same. My aim in this article is to contribute towards an understanding of this complex issue, and in particular to look at the political and theoretical difficulties associated with the construction of the universal in an infinite universe, a universe without a beyond. By teasing out the gist of the conceptualisation of the one of the same, provided respectively by Badiou and Lacan, I argue that the politics of emancipation can fully deploy itself in the domain of the inconsistent, non-totalizable field of the social only by starting with the axiom that equates the one and the »for all«. In the course of discussing what the author calls “the impasses of the way out”, she devides her analysis into two parts: one devoted to an exposition of the collapse of the emancipationist paradigm and to the impasses of the “way out” generally, and one devoted to the conception of the subject attuned to resistance. As a consequence of this discussion, the author argues that the pre-eminence of resistance, advocated by the postmodernists and/or poststructuralists, has serious implications for our understanding of the way out in the present constellation, but also for contemporary thought itself. The central aim of this paper is to examine the possibility of philosophy in today’s world. Adorn... more The central aim of this paper is to examine the possibility of philosophy in today’s world. Adorno and Foucault propose two incompatible answers to this question. According to Adorno, having missed the moment of its realization, philosophy can only contemplate the world from the standpoint of redemption. For Foucault, by contrast, the task proper to philosophy, as it turns to its time, consists in wrenching “something eternal” from the present instant. The key argument put forward by this essay is that, while Badiou and Agamben have taken up the challenge of sustaining the disjunctive tension between these two antinomian paths, they propose divergent strategies in their attempt at solving the problem of the contemporaneity of philosophy. This paper sets out to answer the question of how Badiou’s three books on communism (D’un desastr... more This paper sets out to answer the question of how Badiou’s three books on communism (D’un desastre obscure, De quoi Sarkozy est-il le nom?, and l’Hypothese communiste), with their recurring critique of the ‘death of communism’, might contribute to and improve our understanding of the idea of the eternal in politics. I explore the possibility that Badiou’s evental conception of communism, which seeks to re-install the communist hypothesis at the time, after 1989, when it was both pronounced dead and criminalized, might make such a contribution by 1) its Borromean knot of the real of politics, the symbolic of history, and the imaginary of the Idea, and 2) by its more detailed elaboration of the fictional structure of the idea of communism, serving as an additional frame of reference for examining the nature of the relationship between eternity and change in politics. The semblant is a term forged by Lacan in the last period of his teaching in order to rework the ... more The semblant is a term forged by Lacan in the last period of his teaching in order to rework the relation between the symbolic and the real. The introduction of this notion into psychoanalysis charts a momentous shift in Lacan’s teaching from the symbolic to the real as a focal point of psychoanalysis. Indeed, for psychoanalysis the question of the real is inseparable from the interrogation of the semblant, insofar as, for Lacanian psychoanalysis, the path of access to the real is none other than that of the semblant. This is why although the semblant is relevant to numerous contemporary discourses, it is only in psychoanalysis that this term was elevated to the level of concept. Izhaja iz teze, da se je z globalizacijo kapitalisticnega diskurza spremenilo tudi nase razmerje do casa. To spremembo je mogoce deterkirati tako na ravni unicenja casovnega izkustva, kolikor je tudi sam cas spremejen v blago, kot tudi na ravni “patologij casa”, ki pricajo od radikalno drugacnem vpis subjekta v cas. Opirajoc se na Badioujev in Lacanov pojem dejanja, clanek analizira razlicne artikulacije casovnih modalitet v psihoanalizi in filozofiji.

Der Beitrag geht von der Grundaporie des Skeptizismus aus, das er namlich auf der Argumentationse... more Der Beitrag geht von der Grundaporie des Skeptizismus aus, das er namlich auf der Argumentationsebene nicht zu widerlegen ist, gleichzeitig kann er aber, wie das die Kritiken des Skeptizismus zeigen, auch nicht verteidigt werden. Es handelt sich einerseits um die Kritik des Skeptizismus vom Standpunkt des gesunden Menschenverstandes (G. E. Moore), andererseits um die Kritik von Standpunkt der Philosophie der normalen Sprache (Wittgenstein und Austin). Die abschliesende These des Beitrags ist, das der Skeptizismus eine unmogliche, ethische Position ist, die nicht die erzwungene Wahl zwischen Gewisheit und Wissen annimmt. Weil sie beides will, verliert sie beides. Im Gegenteil dazu wahlt der gesunde Menschenverstand die Gewisheit (den Glauben) aus und erst auf der Grundlage dieser immer schon vorausgesetzten Gewisheit wird auch das Wissen moglich.

However, this inherent cruelty of jouissance becomes a problem for modern moral and political philosophy with Sade, for whom the right to jouissance is a fundamental human rights and as such universal. While Sade’s universal right to jouissance is inconceivable outside the horizon of human rights discourse, the only space in which universal rights can arise, it represents the ultimate limit of this discourse precisely to the extent that the despotism of the passions, which Sade advocates, promotes the rights, not of man, but of jouissance. But can there be something like an ethics of jouissance and, consequently, a politics of jouissance at all if ethics and politics are founded on a relationship with the Other, whereas jouissance, being solipsistic, autistic in nature, problematises the very status...

Prespevek izhaja iz Habermasove teorije argumentacije, ki vidi v argumentaciji uresnicevanje eman... more Prespevek izhaja iz Habermasove teorije argumentacije, ki vidi v argumentaciji uresnicevanje emancipatoricnih potencialov komunikacijskega uma, kolikor je njen smoter racionalno motiviran konsenz, medsebojno pripoznavanje individuov. V nasprotju s tem Habermasovim nevprasljivim povezovanjem argumentacije in racionalnosti prispevek pokaže, da je argumentacija, ki meri na konsenz, vse prej ena temeljnih oblik ideoloske interpelacije, in to prav v tisti meri, v kateri udeleženci argumentacije konstitutivno spregledujejo, da do konsenza pripelje nezavedna raba to-posov, se pravi, nezavednih principov sklepanja iz argumentov na sklep.

The question this article addresses is that of the role of the Other in the non-dupe’s fantasy of self-sufficiency which prompts a non-dupe to pose him/herself as a causa sui. Dabei werden zuerst zwei Modelle analysiert: einerseits das von Habermas und Rawls, andererseits das von Lyotard. Im zweiten Schritt wird dann am Beispiel des westlichen Verhaltens im bosnischen Krieg die Unzulanglichkeit beider Modelle dargelegt.

The first part examines the two »formulas« of communication, political discourse and rational argumentation, with respect to the notions of homonym and homology taken as presuppositions of any consensus. The second part of the essay elaborates on ethical and juridical implications of Perelman's conceptualisation of consensus revealing in this way the hidden Platonistic and Aristotelian heritage which undermines Perelman's attempt to ground his »new rhetoric« in the rhetoric and sophistic tradition.
