Athough adverse health effect of mercury have been known for a long time, exposure to mercury continues and is even increasing in some areas, for example, mercury is still used in gold mining in many parts of North Sulawesi Province. Most of the soil and aquatic bacteria that are continuously exposed to mercury usually develop a genetic adaptation to resist the toxicity of this compound. Bacteria have a specific operon called merOperon that functions to coordinate genes coding for proteins and enzymes involved in mercury disposal and detoxification. Therefore, this preliminary study aims to isolate and identify bacteria collected from gold mining area in the district of Bolaang Mongondow. Bacteria were isolated from soil samples collected from three locations of the gold mining waste disposal and the isolated bacteria were grown in agar media. Identification of the grown bacteria were then be performed using morphological, physiological and biochemical tests. The results showed that 36 bacteria were successfully isolated, of which, 11 isolates were gram positive bacteria and the remainders were gram negative. All isolates showed motility and all could be grouped into 4 species i.e. Bacillus sp., Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacea, and Enterobacter aerogenes.

Terdapat beberapalokasi pertambangan emas rakyat di Sulawesi Utarayang menggunakanmerkuri. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi jenis bakteri yanghidup pada sedimentanahtercemar merkuri, mengisolasi dan mengidentifikasi karakter gen merB pada bakteritersebut. Dilakukan uji resistensi pada fenil merkuri, identifikasi Gram dan 16S rRNA, amplifikasi dan sekuensing gen merB, pensejajaran dan pembuatan pohon filogenetik gen merB pada isolat bakteri resisten fenil merkuri. This study investigated gender and depression in the Indonesian population and considered possible confounding effects. Methods. This was a cross-sectional study. Participants completed the following self-report measures: demographic characteristic questions, the Cultural Orientation Scale, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. Gender differences in depression were examined using a generalized linear model. Results. After withdrawals, 265 men and 243 women remained. Women and men did not differ in overall scores and four-factor depression symptoms even after adjusting for cultural orientation and demographic confounding factors, except for the depression symptoms “crying,” “cannot get going,” and “people were unfriendly.” Gender differences in depression became significant after adjusting for stereotypical symptom variance. Methods : This study was conducted in 25 early pregnant mice, divided in 5 groups (K1-K5). K1-K4 were injected with tachyzoites. K1 and K2 were intervened with Curcuma longa 125 and 500 mg/kg/day. K3 were intervened with spiramycin 60 mg/kg/day, K4 were intervened with 0,2 distilled water, and K5 was not injected and intervened. IgG-IgM levels, FOXP3 mRNA expression, TNF-α level was examined serially, and placental mice were taken for histopathology examination 7 days after intervention. Results: FOXP3 mRNA expression in K1 and K2 increased significantly 7 days after intervention compared to K4 (p < 0.05), however the increased of expression in two groups has no significant difference.
