The discussion focuses on the crucial debate around public formal education and the potential for radical democratisation it offers through three case studies carried out in formal and non-formal educational settings in Thessaloniki, Greece. The research was conducted in three different types of education centres: a public kindergarten, a self-organised autonomous libertarian educational community, and an after-school programme of a primary school where Workshops for Nurturing and Developing Environmental Resilience (WONDER) were implemented by the environmental organisation Mamagea. Through patterns of commoning practices, like peer governance, co-creation of knowledge, and peer learning, the case studies aime...

The last decades the exposure growth of the information and communication technology has great impact to the evolution of chemical science. This has caused great changes on instrumentation and there is no doubt that has revolutionized the way science is done. The commercial research grade instruments of all stripes are fully automated and that is why it is not appropriate for educational use which demands the conceptual understanding of the teaching disciplines. The aim of this work is the study and the development of a kind of technology that permits the integration of information and communication technology in the laboratory training of chemistry student supporting the promotion of research specific skills. In the frame of this thesis designed and implemented with personal computers and remote instrumentation. The constructed learning situation and lead to adaptation...

Learners were not only second/third cycle students in both exact sciences and humanities, but further practicing restorers; consequently their educational background, and even their way of approaching scientific problems, were very diversified, and evaluation of the feedback brought about an urgent need

Many institutions already have VLEs in place, though relatively few are using them with large numbers of students. Some institutions are still trying to decide what type of VLE to implement. “Learning platform” is a generic term used to describe a range of integrated Web-based applications. These can include Web pages, e-mail, message boards, text and videoconference, shared diaries, online social areas, and assessment tools. In this article we describe the different types of elearning tools, what a “platform for e-learning” actually does, what problems it solves, as well as the ways in which platforms for e-learning (or elements of them) are used, or are planned to be used. Finally, we refer to the technical specifications of the most important platform software and systems currently available, and compare them by listing the relevant advanta...

The purpose of integrating a federation of distributed repositories with an Learning Management System (LMS), allowing the sharing of information among different platforms, is to provide the capability of uploading/ downloading files on/from a common server where the LMS is installed and made available to a federated repository. As a use case the activities related to a set of chemistry learning objects generated on the LMS platform of a federated Content Management System (CMS) by the University of Genoa and used by other European Universities are considered.

Where can I find a new job quickest? Which chemical sub-discipline offers most jobs? Reliable answers for these and other questions have been derived from the first European employment survey for chemists and chemical engineers, which was carried out in 2013. Here we publish the first general evaluation of the results of this survey.
