Henry Gladney
Henry Gladney, born in Czechoslovakia, grew up in Canada and settled in California after taking a Chemical Physics Ph.D. Educated at Upper Canada College, Trinity College in the University of Toronto, and Princeton University, he took top honors in every school before becoming an IBM Research Staff Member in 1963.
At IBM, Henry held various technical and management positions, gradually migrating from physics research to computer science. In small collaborations, he invented access control software emulated in every later computer operating system, a real-time operating system used in over 16,000 computers, and a seminal digital content management system. After leaving IBM in 2000, he designed the first reliable long-term digital preservation system,
Henry has published 75 refereed papers, 11 patents, a Digital Document magazine, and 2 books: Preserving Digital Information and No Taxation without Representation.
