Continuando precedenti indagini sulle scritture esposte in volgare siciliano, nel presente artico... more Continuando precedenti indagini sulle scritture esposte in volgare siciliano, nel presente articolo si esamina una testimonianza del secolo XVI: le didascalie che corredano le «storiette» laterali di un affresco dedicato a San Silvestro papa, collocato nella chiesa di San Silvestro a Troina. Dopo avere preliminarmente vagliato i contenuti del dipinto, posti in relazione con l’ambiente religioso e socio-culturale nel quale quest’ultimo ha visto la luce, si procede alla rextitutio textus, all’esame linguistico delle scritture – che peraltro presentano una facies siciliana ben conservata – e alla messa a fuoco del loro rapporto con la figurazione del dipinto e con la principale fonte letteraria della legenda silvestrina, gli Actus Silvestri.
On the basis of previous research into inscriptions in Sicilian vernacular, this article examines a testimony from the sixteenth century: the captions in the Sicilian vernacular which accompany the ‘little tales’ along the margins of a fresco dedicated to the pope, Saint Sylvester, in the church of Saint Sylvester in Troina. after reviewing the content of the painting the article moves on to the restitutio textus and the linguistic analysis of the captions (with well-preserved Sicilian features); it also focuses on the relationship between the written text, the image and the main literary source of Saint Sylvester’s legenda, the Actus Silvestri.

Il presente intervento, pertanto, si prefigge – dopo un esame preliminare del retroterra ideologico che in Italia ha animato il purismo – di mettere in luce i principali elementi della prassi filologica dei puristi, con particolare riferimento alla scelta dei testimoni, ai modi della trascrizione (con le relative opzioni grafiche e paragrafematiche), agli interventi di emendatio, e soprattutto alla prospettiva lessicografica, rivolta a riscoprire voci del lessico trecentesco cadute in disuso da reimmettere nell’uso scritto.
