Specifically it is Exploration 8/21/24: Minkowski, in developing his geometric relativity theory writes "An equation is covariant if the form of the equation remains the same in all inertial reference systems, that is, if its variables transform like x, y, z, t. An expression is invariant if it equals a scalar as defined in vector analysis," . The experiment explores the question- "How can this be used in furthering AI research?" - LLM point to : Minkowski’s statement on covariance and invariance in the context of his geometric relativity theory provides a powerful framework for thinking about the fundamental properties of physical laws and mathematical descriptions of reality. This concept can be extended and applied to AI research in several ways, potentially leading to more robust, generalizable, and interpretable AI systems. My experiment suggests the following extensions of Minkowski’s ideas can for leveraging in AI research:

T... more The paper continues my earlier Chat with OpenAI's ChatGPT with a Focused LLM Experiment (FLEX). The idea is to conduct Large Language Model (LLM) based explorations of certain areas or concepts. The approach is based on crafting initial guiding prompts and then follow up with user prompts based on the LLMs' responses. The goals include improving understanding of LLM capabilities and their limitations culminating in optimized prompts. The specific subjects explored as research subject matter include a) diagonalization techniques as practiced by Cantor, Turing, Gödel, and the advances, such as the Forcing techniques introduced by Paul Cohen and later investigators, b) Knowledge Hierarchies & Mapping Exercises, c) Discussions of IJ Good's Speculations Concerning the First Ultraintelligent Machine, AGI, and Superintelligence. Results suggest variability between major models like ChatGPT-4, Llama-3, Cohere, Sonnet and Opus. Results also point to strong dependence on users' preexisting knowledge and skill bases. The paper should be viewed as 'raw data' rather than a polished authoritative reference.
ABSTRACT Mine Countermeasures (MCM), an element of Mine Warfare, is a critical component of the U... more ABSTRACT Mine Countermeasures (MCM), an element of Mine Warfare, is a critical component of the US National Defense picture. MCM operations are mandatory since it is a simple and relatively inexpensive matter for opponents to place vast quantities of land and sea mines. Representation of MCM activities in simulations can substantially accelerate and optimize material and tactical means development to address this problem. A systematic effort to model and simulate the breadth of Mine Warfare operations is described. Developing computationally tractable models for inclusion in either time stepped or event driven MCM simulations is a formidable problem. Discussion of a particular strategy for dealing with modeling fidelity issues is provided, as are the issues and challenges associated with detection, recognition and system effectiveness representation.

The results of measurements, utilizing a mobile platform, of bottom backscattering at grazing ang... more The results of measurements, utilizing a mobile platform, of bottom backscattering at grazing angles of 1° to 30° are reported. The experiments were carried out in the vicinity of Stage I off Panama City and are comprised of measurements at 25, 35, and 45 kH for cw and FM transmitted signals of different pulse lengths. Statistical features of this reverberation data will be discussed as well as comparisons to other bottom reverberation measurements and models. [Work supported by Naval Sea Systems Command.]
