Design/methodology/approach To improve continually the performance of a company, many research studies tend to apply Lean six sigma approach. It is one of the best ways used to reduce the variability in the process by using the univariate control chart to know the trend of the variable and make the action before process deviation. Nevertheless, and when the need is to monitor two or more correlated characteristics simultaneously, the univariate control chart will be unable to do it, and the multivariate control chart will be the best way to successfully monitor the correlated characteristics. The main objective claimed by this study is the numerical modeling of hydraulic transients in pla... more The main objective claimed by this study is the numerical modeling of hydraulic transients in plastic pipe, typically made of polyethylene. It allows to investigate, the effect of the viscoelasticity of such material, on water hammer phenomena by taking into account the unsteady part of friction term. The approach to the problem is based on the theory of unsteady one dimensional flow in a cylindrical straight pipe. The set partial differential equations to be solved are obtained using conservation laws and behavior for the fluid and the pipe wall. These equations are associated, for the two media, with the constitutive relationship compatibility of interfaces on velocities and stresses. A global digital processing is achieved using the method of characteristics. The results obtained are in good agreement with those found in the literature.

Cette étude concerne une modélisation théorique et numérique d'un écoulement diphasique gaz-l... more Cette étude concerne une modélisation théorique et numérique d'un écoulement diphasique gaz-liquide en régime transitoire dans une conduite flexible, à l'aide de modèle de fluide homogène équilibré. La densité du mélange diphasique est la moyenne des densités des composants. Pour tenir compte de l'interaction fluide-structure, on introduit la loi de Hooke qui permet d'établir une relation entre la pression du fluide et de la section droite de la conduite. Le système d'équations aux dérivées partielles obtenu est résolu par la méthode des caractéristiques. Cette étude est menée dans l'hypothèse de fluide compressible, isentropique, et le gaz contenu dans le liquide est relativement de faible proportion. La partie instationnaire du frottement est évaluée à l'aide des algorithmes de Brunone et de Zielke. Cette étude a permis de démontrer l'effet du rapport de mélange gaz - liquide sur l'atténuation de l'onde de pression dans l'écoulement.

Under such circumstances, an increase in the volume and quantity of storage tanks has become must due to the their importance in preventing harms and risks by storing large volumes of flammable, explosive, toxic and harmful materials, that is why many researchers are orientating themselves in research projects of materials for the construction of storage tanks with good quality and with the cheapest. In this article, we show the different thermo-mechanical behaviors of the two materials which are concrete and steel so that the constructors can make the most adequate choice for their needs (storage conditions, temperature, pressure, etc…), especially since each of these materials has specific characteristics that can influence the types of tanks as well as the storage modes.
