This study was conducted with the purpose of determining secondary mathematics teachers’ beliefs ... more This study was conducted with the purpose of determining secondary mathematics teachers’ beliefs and conceptions about effective teacher. Case study is preferred as research method. The study was carried out during 2007-2008 school year fall term with ten mathematics teachers working in a secondary school in the city center of Trabzon province and each participant was interviewed for about 60 minutes. An interview form developed by the researchers and comprised of open-ended and scenario-type questions were used as the data collecting tool. The data was analyzed descriptively using the Epistemological Reflection Model of Magolda. As a result of the study, besides having a number of strict ideas about mathematics instruction, they were found to have views compatible with the philosophical roots of the most recently implemented mathematics curriculum and to be open to innovations. Finally, some recommendations were made based on the results of this study.
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of teaching percentages with the creative drama me... more The aim of this study is to examine the effect of teaching percentages with the creative drama method on the academic achievement and permanence of fifth grade students. For this purpose, an experimental design with pre -test post-test control group, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was adopted. The sample of the research consists of 58 fifth grade students, 30 of whom are experimental and 28 of whom are controls, who are studying in a public school in Osmaniye city center. When the data got within the scope of the research were analyzed at the 95% confidence level in the SPSS 23 program, it was revealed that there was a moderate effect size in favor of the experimental group between the test scores of the knowledge retention of the experimental and control groups. Thus, we agreed that the creative drama method is more effective than traditional teaching methods in terms of academic success and permanence of knowledge on percentages.

The qualitative research design was utilized in accordance with this purpose. The study sample was composed of 99 preservice mathematics teachers attending the Faculty of Education at a state university during the fall term of 2015/2016 academic year. A form of 6 open-ended questions prepared about the concepts of sequence and subsequence was used as the data collection instrument. Answers of the preservice teachers to the open-ended questions were first scanned as images and then transferred into digital medium. Next, the data transferred into digital medium were subjected to a content analysis with MAXQDA 12 qualitative data analysis software. "Data coding" which is a data analysis method was utilized. It was concluded in the study that the preservice teachers had wrong perceptions and concept images of both sequences and subsequences ...
