conduct an investigation or analysis of data. Without exception, the available procedures most often employed were
intended to be used to gain an understanding of experimental data -- that is, data that have been collected under
carefully controlled conditions. What has not been well understood is that the routines designed for ideal conditions
are not very accurate, and can be quite misleading, when applied to data collected under real world or observational
conditions. There are entirely different suites of techniques used for the observational study, and the widespread
use of experimental techniques to analyze observational data is quite alarming
