Extra-cranial carotid artery disease has been implicated in the aetiology of post cardiac surgery stroke. The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with or without staged carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in a tertiary referral centre. A 5 year retrospective study was performed. The primary endpoints were defined as peri-operative stroke and myocardial infarction (MI) with secondary outcome defined as death within 30 days of surgery. In total 5924 cardiac procedures and 29 staged CEA's were performed. The rate of stroke and MI was significantly higher in patients undergoing staged CEA pre-cardiac surgery compared to patients undergoing cardiac surgery with confirmed or presumed normal carotid arteries (10.34% vs 1.43%; P = .008 and 13.79% vs 0.38%; P < .0001, respectively). There was no significant differe...

In the present study, the toxicity of 17 common insecticides to A. lineolatus was evaluated, and the susceptibility of P. spretus to the insecticides with high toxicity to A. lineolatus was tested under laboratory conditions. Of the 17 insecticides tested, 12 (beta cypermethrin, deltamethrin, carbosulfan, acetamiprid, emamectin benzoate, imidacloprid, phoxim, chlorpyrifos, acephate, profenophos, hexaflumuron, and abamectin) had a highly toxic effect on second-instar nymphs of A. lineolatus, with LC50 values ranging from 0.58 to 14.85 mg a.i. (active ingredient) liter(-1). Adults of P. spretus were most sensitive to chlorpyrifos, with LC50 values of 0.03 mg a.i. liter(-1), followed by phoxim, acetamiprid, profenophos, carbosulfan, acephat...

Kutzing was used as feed supplement for broiler chicks. After necessary processing, four concentrations at 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% w/w of algal material were mixed with commercial feed of chicks (starter and finisher feed). Feeding experiments were performed from the day old chicks to ten weeks. Biochemical parameters (ash, carbohydrate, fat, protein and water content) of liver of chicks fed on different algal compositions as well as control feed were also studied. It was observed that the birds which were fed on medium concentrations (10%-15%) of algal feed showed best results in terms of quality and quantity of meat. Cladophora glomerata showed best growth at 15%. Mortality rate was zero because not a single chick died. On the other hand chemical analysis of chicks liver showed higher amount of carbohydrates at 15%. Water and ash contents were higher in liver at 10%-20% algal supplement as compared to control. Whereas, there were no significa...

Little is known about the genetic polymorphism involved in hypospadias. A few genetic associations have been reported but mainly in studies of small sample size and were based on case control stud . The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the ies genetic polymorphism usually seen in the affected siblings, also seen in other 1st degree relative of the family (father, mother, brothers). Methods: Prospective analysis of 60 cases of penoscrotal/ scrotal hypospadias with unilateral or bilateral undescended testis and their 1st degree relatives (father, mother and brother) was done. Inclusion criteria included cases of penoscrotal/ scrotal hypospadias with 46 XY karyotype. Exclusion criteria included cases of disorders of sexual differentiation, lost to follow up or not giving consent for the study. Investigations include hormonal assessment of cases, karyotype, genitogram, and genetic a...

This paper investigates, quantitatively, the risk of rainfall induced landslides by assessing the consequence of each failure. The influence of the spatial variability of the saturated hydraulic conductivity on the risk of landslides is studied. It is shown that a critical spatial correlation length exists at which the risk is a maximum.

In Melanocytes, TRPM1 expression is necessary for the function of endogenous nonselective cation channels with constitutive activity, while experimentally down-regulating TRPM1 expression diminished these currents. The structural mechanism of TRPM1 is still unknown, so, we modeled the three dimensional structure to predict the structural mechanism of human TRPM1. MOE was utilized to generate three dimensional structure of the human TRPM1 candidate gene. The quality of the constructed model was checked by Rampage and ERRAT. Molecular-dynamics simulations were carried out to characterize the dynamic behavior of the protein. Our results showed an open motion of the protein in water solvent. The generated model will help in understanding the mechanism of TRPM1 protein and will provide an incentive for new studies. Keywords: TRPM1, Modeling, validation...

Due to this, consumer demand towards natural anti-microbial agents is increasing day by day. Natural anti-microbial agents have gained enormous attention as an alternative therapeutic agent in pharmaceutical industry. Current study is an effort to explore and identify a bactericidal potential of various solvent extracts of Calotropis procera flower. Flowers of C. procera were extracted with hexane, butanol, ethyl acetate and aqua to evaluate the antibacterial activity by agar well diffusion method against the various human pathogens. The microorganisms used in this study includes Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli (O157:H7), Micrococcus luteus KIBGE-IB20 (Gen Bank accession: JQ250612) and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) KIBGE-IB23 (Gen Bank accession: KC465400). Zones of inhibition were observed against all four pathogenic strains. ...
