With this gesture, it asserts to go beyond Kantian criticism and fideism. This position is very different from tr aditional materialisms, but also from all kinds of metaphysical absolute, insofar as it denies the validity of the principle of sufficient reason and rejects the existence of a necessary entity. The only necessary thing, for Meillassoux, is the principle w hich states that everything is contingent, and the concomitant nonreason of every existing being. The author objects that it is possible to uphold on rational grounds that reality lacks intelligibility, and at the sa me time argues that it is possible to su stain the thesis of an ex nihilo emergence of life, thought, and even divinity, with the argu- ment that the radical contingence of everything implies that everything is possible, except the contradictory .

Habermas challenges the reductionist aspect of strong naturalism on the basis of an epistemological dualism —one he considers unsurpassable— between the perspectives of the observer and the participant of a dialogue, but he accepts the search for a monist vision of reality. However, although Habermas’s attempt to expand the constrained vision of nature is welcomed, this paper offers a critique of his position due to the vagueness in his way of understanding the relation between philosophy and science and his attempt —however weak— to naturalize reason, by trying to bring together Kant with Darwin.

Firstly, an analysis of Ferraris’ position is made, a position which tries to overcome postmodern relativist, dividing ontology from epistemology, and going back to experience. Secondly, the almost contrary position of Markus Gabriel is examined, which posits different fields of sense and not only the scientificist reductionist naturalist one

Here we have a prevalent work program. The main task of metaphysics is to integrate diverse realms of meaning that may seem unconnected. It is a methodology meant to integrate methodologies (meta-methodology). The strategy to achieve this consists of understanding that there is an isomorphism between our cognitive activity and being. For this we must thoroughly examinate the traditional thomist notion of being, that is the dynamic orientation of our cognitive structure, common to all humans (transcendental). Because it is a notion and not a concept, integration will always remain a permanent task. In order to undertake such a mission, the metaphysician (rather a group than a person) should exercise a previous pedagogical self appropriation of his own cognitional structure and its immanent normativity.
