Homestead is a single-player narrative game, inspired by common tabletop fantasy games. It requires very little in order to play - the book, a writing tool, and a single six-sided dice.

How do you play Homestead?

Homestead was designed to be enjoyed as a physical 'journal', where simple but thoughtful prompts grow the characters and world that the player develops. The only tools you need to play after printing are a writing tool and a single six-sided die.

The player will begin the game by creating a small group of characters and defining a piece of land, all of which are shaped by simple rolls that invite creative decision-making. After these foundations are made, the game will guide this little group and the land around them through developments and situations that will further shape their story, their relationships, and the land around them.

Who is this game made for?

Ages 12 and up -  the game includes implications of violence and petty crime, but does not describe these situations in detail. There is no sexual/mature content.

The game has been designed with regular fantasy tropes in mind, taking inspiration from classics like Tolkein and D&D. However, the game is system-agnostic - you do not need to know the rules or lore of any setting to enjoy the game, and you can customize it to suit whatever scenarios fit your own interests.

The game is intentionally designed to be inclusive of all demographics to allow for freedom of expression. You can tell any story you want - as long as your dice rolls don't betray you...

Who made Homestead?

I developed the game independently after being inspired by games like A Quiet Year (Avery Alder); my spouse has long stretches of quiet during their day and I wanted to give them something engaging and creative to evoke the best parts of our favorite shared hobby of roleplaying games.

I don't have much of a social media presence but I can be reached anytime on Discord (Hyzo). I'm a relatively boring dude living in British Columbia, I have a cute cat named Augustine, and I play in several D&D campaigns!
