past events. The dynamic account of past events that involves an interpretation attempt to recapture the personalities and ideas of the events. One of the goals of historical research
is to communicating of past events. In the field of library and information science, there are vast arrays of topics that may be considered for conducting historical research. For example, a researcher may choose to answer to questions about the development of any type of the libraries, the rise of technology and the benefits/ problems it brings, the development of preservation methods, famous personalities in the field, library statistics, or geographical demographics and how they affect library distribution.

experimental designs is that it provides the opportunity to identify cause-and-effect relationships. Non-experimental research, e.g., case studies, surveys, correlation studies, is non-manipulative observational research usually conducted in natural settings. While laboratory-controlled experimental studies tend to be higher in internal validity, non-experimental studies tend to be higher in external validity.

or predictions about a topic. Qualitative and/or quantitative questions can be asked of the 'experts' and the information is then analyzed and fed back to each person, via further questions, and their responses are analyzed and fed back, and so on, until the goal is reached, that is when a consensus is reached which offers synthesis and clarity on the question.
