Atlas.ti for Qualitative Data Analysis

Atlas.ti is a desktop and web-based software for analyzing qualitative data, including text, image and video, and survey data. With Atlas.ti, you can code data by hand, automatically using keyword searches, and via AI. In addition to coding data, you can view the results of your coding in different configurations, write memos about your developing analysis, create concept maps, quantify qualitative data, and use AI to summarize or “chat” with your data.

Rebecca Walkowitz: “Knowing and Not Knowing Languages”

Explaining our methodologies, our purpose, and our impact as teachers and researchers has never been more necessary. Students, parents, government agencies, and political leaders are asking us to articulate the value of our research, especially our research in the humanities. Focusing on research and teaching in global languages and cultures, and on some artworks concerned with languages, this lecture calls for making a more pragmatic, and more assertive, case for knowing and learning world languages. 1923 Kanto Massacre Screening (US Premiere) + Q&A

Attend the US premiere of the “1923 Kanto Massacre” documentary on Wed, November 13, 6pm at the Spurlock Museum, Knight Auditorium. The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 marked a moment of unprecedented material destruction and cultural rupture in Japan. The disaster soon became subject to political manipulation that incited rumors and violence against colonized Koreans amid physical chaos. This documentary traces how this genocidal violence has long been covered up. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s creative producer, Illinois alum Dr. Jinhee Lee. Register here.
