Find-in-page matches occurrences in hidden search results #8334

Description

@corneliusroemer

Context

After the search results modal is hidden (I think the technical term is "blurred") e.g. by clicking outside of the modal, the full modal remains searchable by browser text search.

I'm no accessibility expert but I'm almost certain this is a violation of some sort.

Bug description

Seen on Ruff's Material for MkDocs deployment: https://docs.astral.sh/ruff/ as of 2025-07-15 17:12 UTC

  1. Search something through the search bar, e.g. "Exception"
  2. "Abort" the search by clicking outside the modal
  3. Hit "Ctrl+f"/"Cmd+f" and enter the same search term, e.g. "Exception"
  4. Observe that the first 50 or so hits are all out of the view port and really should not have happened.

Related links

Searched for "browser search" or "find" or "search modal" and went through results, didn't find a dupe.

Reproduction

See above, plus recording here (unfortunately the actual search tool is offscreen but you should get the idea)

Aside

I know bad bug reports are annoying but this is form is overdoing it a little. Forcing a zip to even accept a report... I'd be happy to do extra steps you find necessary, but I'd appreciate if you could have a look if what's there isn't enough.
