🐛 Describe the bug

symptom: eager would throw the error when the shape of x and y is different. But inductor seems to do a special processing.... It broadcasts y to the same shape as x.

device: both cuda and CPU

import torch
import torch.nn as nn

torch.manual_seed(0)
torch.set_grad_enabled(False)
from torch._inductor import config

config.fallback_random = True

class Model(nn.Module):

    def __init__(self):
        super(Model, self).__init__()

    def forward(self, x, y, indices):
        x = torch.index_copy(x, 0, indices, y)
        return x

model = Model().cuda()

x = torch.randn(1, 2).cuda()
y = torch.randn(1, 1).cuda()
indices = torch.tensor([0]).cuda()
print(x)
print(y)

inputs = [x, y, indices]

try:
    model(*inputs)
except Exception as e:
    print(f"fail on eager: {e}")

try:
    c_model = torch.compile(model)
    output = c_model(*inputs)
    print(output)
except Exception as e:
    print(f"fail on inductor: {e}")

Error logs

tensor([[ 1.5410, -0.2934]], device='cuda:0')
tensor([[-2.1788]], device='cuda:0')
fail on eager: index_copy_(): Source/destination tensor must have same slice shapes. Destination slice shape: 2 at dimension 0 and source slice shape: 1 at dimension 0.
tensor([[-2.1788, -2.1788]], device='cuda:0')
