Position and default styling for version switcher #680

Description

I suggest that the documentation for the version switcher should give another example.

If one follows the instructions and does not do any style customization, the version swicher is blue and at the navbar-end (I took the pandas docs as a visual example):

This is not quite ideal:

  • The blue color is too prominent compared to the otherwise quite minimalistic theme.
  • The position next to the link icons is somewhat out of context.

A better default would be to place the version next to the logo. library - version rhymes quite well. Also the default color could be more muted. So that we end up with something like this:

While I know that one can customize all this, it would be nice if the docs would already guide towards the suggested styling.
