I want to avoid creating a full user system. The following can be implemented by only keeping a list of users who have opted-out of emails.

  • Response emails (approval/rejection etc) will almost always be sent to the user which initiated an action
  • Users can opt-out of receiving emails for:
    • their extensions being approved (when someone else submitted it)
    • maintainership requests
    • invitations to maintain an extension
  • Postmark does not allow you to send to those who have not given you permission to contact them
    • invitation emails are allowed
    • We should send invitation emails with an accept button. Extensions should store a list of invited people separately from maintainers (so that they don't get emailed maintainership requests.)

This issue will remain open in case this policy needs to be questioned by the community.

Will there be an RSS feed (or feeds) as well?

There easily could be, it's just another type of page to output.
