Doing weeknotes
I wrote a thing

(11 March 2024)

Doing weeknotes on a screen in my office; there are sticky notes on the wall in the background

I’ve just published a website called Doing weeknotes.

It’s a mix of old blog posts I’ve written here, plus quite a lot of new stuff, all of it given a good edit and a bit of a stir.

If you already write weeknotes, or have an interest in weeknotes, Doing weeknotes is not for you.

It’s for people who have never encountered weeknotes before. People for whom the word “weeknotes” is entirely new.

I realised, after doing a training session towards the end of last year, that when I introduce the idea of weeknotes to teams, I do lots of explaining, and show lots of examples. Usually, people grasp the idea very quickly (I mean, it’s not hard), and very often, one or two people who are listening decide to start writing their own weeknotes.

But at the moment I had that realisation, I also realised that there was no simple guide. No handbook. No Doing presentations, for weeknotes.

So I decided to change that.

Doing weeknotes explains what weeknotes are, how they work, and how to write them. It includes lots of practical tips and real-world examples.

It’s quite short, so you can read it in about half an hour or so.

I’m giving it away for free on the internet because that’s how I roll. Readers who find it useful are asked to donate a tree. The world needs more trees, more than it needs more other things. I might sort out an ebook version another day, we’ll see.

If you meet someone or work with someone who you think might be interested, all you need to do is send them to the right place: doingweeknotes.com. That’ll do it.
