We often talk about the "Flutter community" - but community is about more than just getting together and listening to presentations. A community is a group of people who build things, together. To that end, Fluttercon USA is organizing its first ever open source hackathon.

Like other hackathons, the Fluttercon USA Hackathon involves a group of developers who write code within the span of a weekend. But where other hackathons solve puzzles, or create throwaway prototypes, our hackathon aims to merge real, usable code into existing open source packages. By the end of this hackathon, you'll be able to say that you shipped features and/or bug fixes in real packages, that other developers really use!

To help participants contribute effectively, five open source authors will oversee the hackathon. Participants will contribute to their choice of packages from these authors. The open source authors will provide websites and READMEs to get started, they'll help you select achievable issues to work on, and they'll review and merge your code.

At the end of the hackathon, select participants will get an opportunity to demo what they merged.

We encourage all participants to continue contributing to these packages even after the event, and to help their colleagues do the same. Through open source contributions, Flutter can truly boast the world's greatest tech community.
