ENGAÑO Y DESHONESTIDAD
DEFINICIÓN : El engaño y la deshonestidad se refieren a engañar a alguien y hacerle
creer deliberadamente cosas que no son ciertas. Dar falso testimonio contra alguien,
estafar y mentir son sinónimos.
HECHOS SOBRE EL ENGAÑO Y LA DESHONESTIDAD:
Algunos ejemplos de engaño y deshonestidad incluyen mentir en los negocios, en
las relaciones, hacer trampa en los exámenes o en asuntos financieros y la
tergiversación deliberada de los hechos.
El engaño y la deshonestidad son habituales en la política y en los gobiernos .
Los líderes sin escrúpulos dicen lo que quieren oír en lugar de decir la verdad.
El engaño es algo común en la religión . Hay muchos falsos maestros y sectas que
engañan a multitudes de personas en todo el mundo. El apóstol Pablo advierte: “Les
ruego, hermanos, que se cuiden de los que causan divisiones y tropiezos en contra de
la enseñanza que ustedes han aprendido. Apártense de ellos. Porque tales personas
no sirven a nuestro Señor Cristo, sino a sus propios apetitos. Con palabras suaves y
lisonjas engañan las mentes de los ingenuos” (Romanos 16:17-18).
El engaño y la deshonestidad son pecado. Uno de los diez mandamientos habla de
“dar falso testimonio”, es decir, mentir (Éxodo 20:16). Levítico 19:11 dice claramente: “
No mintáis. No os engañéis unos a otros”. Jesús repitió este mandato en Mateo 15:19;
19:18; Marcos 10:19; y Lucas 18:20. El apóstol Pablo lo enfatizó en Romanos 13:9.
Dios odia la mentira. En Proverbios 6:19, el falso testimonio y la lengua mentirosa se
encuentran entre las principales cosas que Dios odia.
Satanás es el padre de la mentira. Jesús les dijo a los fariseos pecadores: “Ustedes
son de su padre, el diablo, y quieren hacer lo que él desea. Él ha sido un homicida
desde el principio, y no ha permanecido en la verdad, porque no hay verdad en él.

Cuando miente, habla su propia lengua, porque es mentiroso y padre de la mentira”
(Juan 8:44).
El engaño aumentará en los últimos tiempos . El apóstol Pedro advirtió sobre
aquellos que se burlarían de la Palabra de Dios e incluso dirían que el Señor no iba a
regresar (2 Pedro 3:1-7). Timoteo advierte sobre “tiempos peligrosos” en los últimos
días, diciendo que los hombres serán implacables (deshonestos) y que “siempre
estarán aprendiendo, y nunca podrán llegar al conocimiento de la verdad” (2 Timoteo
3:17). También advirtió que estos hombres mentirosos seguirían a espíritus
engañadores y a enseñanzas de demonios (1 Timoteo 4:1-2). Jesús advirtió
repetidamente a los creyentes que estuvieran en guardia, para que no seamos
engañados en los últimos tiempos (Mateo 24:4). Una de las principales características
del Anticristo en los últimos tiempos será el engaño. Obrará “prodigios mentirosos”
mediante el poder de Satanás y engañará a muchas personas (2 Tesalonicenses 2:7-
11).
COMO ENFRENTAR EL ENGAÑO Y LA DESHONESTIDAD:
El engaño y la deshonestidad son pecado. Si has estado mintiendo y engañando,
debes reconocer que es pecado. Como con cualquier pecado, debes confesárselo a
Dios y buscar el perdón.
Acepta y actúa conforme a la verdad de la Palabra de Dios . Pídele a Dios que
ponga Su Espíritu de verdad en tu corazón y en tu mente (Juan 16:13). Despójate del
“viejo hombre” del pecado, que es corrupto y engañoso, y vístete del nuevo hombre,
que es como Dios en verdadera justicia (Efesios 4:22-23). Pídele a Dios que ponga un
corazón nuevo dentro de ti, porque dar falso testimonio sale de tu corazón (Mateo
15:18-19).
Pide perdón a quienes has engañado . Sé sincero y pídeles que te perdonen.
Si tienes tendencia a mentir o engañar , haz de estos versículos tu lema: “Pon
guarda a mi boca, oh Señor; vigila la puerta de mis labios” (Salmo 141:3) y “Libra mi
alma, oh Señor, de los labios mentirosos, Y de la lengua engañosa” (Salmo 120:2, NVI).
Si te han mentido o te han engañado, perdona a los responsables . Perdónalos,
pero en el futuro trátalos como son, no como te gustaría que fueran. Perdónalos, pero a
menos que demuestren una vez más que son dignos de confianza, no deposites una
confianza ciega en ellos.
Pídele a Dios el don del discernimiento , una capacidad sobrenatural que Dios nos
ha dado para percibir la verdad en cualquier situación (1 Corintios 12:10).

Sumérgete en la Palabra de Dios . Si te alimentas espiritualmente de la carne fuerte
de la Palabra, podrás discernir entre el bien y el mal, entre la verdad y el engaño
(Hebreos 5:12-14). La manera de lidiar con el engaño es aprender la verdad, para que
no te engañen.
LO QUE DICE LA PALABRA DE DIOS SOBRE EL ENGAÑO Y LA
DESHONESTIDAD:
No darás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo. (Éxodo 20:16)
No mintáis ni os engañéis unos a otros. (Levítico 19:11)
Tú destruyes a los que hablan mentira; el Señor aborrece a los hombres sanguinarios y
engañosos. (Salmo 5:6)
Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has
clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what
is false. (Psalm 24:3-4)
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from
evil and your lips from speaking lies. (Psalm 34:12-13)
You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. (Psalm 52:3)
But you, O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of corruption; bloodthirsty and
deceitful men will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you. (Psalm 55:23)
For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride.
(Psalm 59:12)
…the mouths of liars will be silenced. (Psalm 63:11)
No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will
stand in my presence. (Psalm 101:7)
Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. (Psalm 119:29)
I hate and abhor falsehood but I love your law. (Psalm 119:163)
Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips And from a deceitful tongue. (Psalm 120:2,
NKJV)
Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. (Psalm 141:3)

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a
lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who
stirs up dissension among brothers. (Proverbs 6:16-19)
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their
duplicity. (Proverbs 11:3)
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. (Proverbs 12:19)
The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful. (Proverbs 12:22)
The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace. (Proverbs
13:5)
A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies. (Proverbs 14:5)
He whose tongue is deceitful falls into trouble. (Proverbs 17:20)
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one who is perverse in his lips, and is
a fool. (Proverbs 19:1)
A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will not go free.
(Proverbs 19:5)
Better to be poor than a liar. (Proverbs 19:22)
Getting treasures by a lying tongue Is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death.
(Proverbs 21:6)
An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips. (Proverbs 24:26)
Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, For would you deceive with
your lips? (Proverbs 24:28)
Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow is the man who gives false testimony against his
neighbor. (Proverbs 25:18)
Like a madman shooting firebrands or deadly arrows is a man who deceives his
neighbor and says, “I was only joking!” (Proverbs 26:18-19)
A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin. (Proverbs 26:28)
Keep falsehood and lies far from me. (Proverbs 30:7-8)
O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? (Jeremiah 5:3)

Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to
lie; they weary themselves with sinning. (Jeremiah 9:5)
For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
(Matthew 12:37)
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man
‘unclean.’ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality,
theft, false testimony, slander. (Matthew 15:18-19)
…and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people (Matthew 24:11)
… Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will
know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He
was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.
When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John
8:44)
O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth,
(Galatians 3:1, KJV)
You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?
(Galatians 5:7)
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here
and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their
deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into
him who is the Head, that is, Christ. (Ephesians 4:14-15)
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is
being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we
are all members of one body. (Ephesians 4:22-25)
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath
comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them. For you
were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the
fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) (Ephesians 5:6-8)

Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and
have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its
Creator. (Colossians 3:9-10)
Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion
occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will
oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that
he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. (2 Thessalonians
2:3-4)
El advenimiento del inicuo se hará por obra de Satanás, con toda clase de milagros y
señales y prodigios mentirosos y con todo tipo de iniquidad que engaña a los que se
pierden, porque no recibieron el amor de la verdad para ser salvos. Por eso Dios les
envía un poder engañoso, para que crean en la mentira, a fin de que sean condenados
todos los que no creyeron en la verdad, sino que se complacieron en la maldad. (2
Tesalonicenses 2:9-12)
El Espíritu dice claramente que en los últimos tiempos algunos apostatarán de la fe y
seguirán a espíritus engañadores y a doctrinas de demonios, dictadas por hipócritas
mentirosos, que tienen cauterizada la conciencia (1 Timoteo 4:1-2).
En realidad, aunque ya deberían ser maestros, necesitan que alguien les enseñe de
nuevo los principios elementales de la palabra de Dios. Lo que necesitan es leche, no
alimento sólido. El que se alimenta de leche, siendo todavía niño, no conoce la
enseñanza de la justicia. En cambio, el alimento sólido es para los adultos, los que por
el uso constante se han ejercitado en el discernimiento del bien y del mal. (Hebreos
5:12-14)
Pero hubo también falsos profetas entre el pueblo, como habrá entre vosotros falsos
maestros, que introducirán encubiertamente herejías destructoras, y aun negarán al
Señor que los rescató, atrayendo sobre sí mismos una destrucción repentina. Y muchos
seguirán sus disoluciones, por causa de los cuales el camino de la verdad será
blasfemado. Por avaricia os explotarán con palabras engañosas; porque su juicio no ha
tardado mucho, ni su perdición se duerme. (2 Pedro 2:1-3)
Queridos hijos, no os dejéis engañar por nadie. El que practica la justicia es justo, como
él es justo. El que practica el pecado es del diablo, porque el diablo peca desde el
principio. El Hijo de Dios apareció para destruir las obras del diablo. (1 Juan 3:7-9)
Amados, no creáis a todo espíritu, sino probad los espíritus para ver si son de Dios,
porque han salido por el mundo muchos falsos profetas. En esto podéis reconocer el
Espíritu de Dios: Todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne es de

Dios; pero todo espíritu que no confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne no es de
Dios. Este es el espíritu del anticristo, del cual habéis oído que viene, y que ahora ya
está en el mundo. (1 Juan 4:1-3)
Pero los cobardes e incrédulos, los abominables y homicidas, los fornicarios y
hechiceros, los idólatras y todos los mentirosos tendrán su parte en el lago de fuego y
azufre, que es la muerte segunda” (Apocalipsis 21:8).
