[edit]From an earlier form of vīgintī (“twenty”) + -iēns. Compare Sanskrit विंति (viṃśatí), Ancient Greek εἴκοσι (eíkosi) from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wi-(h₁)-ḱm̥t-ih₁.
