Swedish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Compound of mumin + troll. Coined by Tove Jansson.
The demonym is likely connected to the common depiction of Moomin trolls with a distinct Finnish accent in Sweden.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]mumintroll n
- Moomin
- (derogatory) A person from Finland or of Finnish descent.
- 2018 January 17, Jenny Blomqvist, “Schyfferts enda supportkomiker är finlandssvensk”, in Hufvudstadsbladet:
- Som finlandssvensk komiker i Sverige står man ut och blir mumintrollet. I Finland är jag ju som vem som helst, men det ska bli roligt att se hur det är att stå framför en publik av mumintroll, säger hon med ett skratt.
- "As a Finnish-Swedish comedian in Sweden, one stands out and becomes the Moomin troll. In Finland, I'm just like anyone else, but it will be fun to see what it's like to stand in front of an audience of Moomin trolls," she says with a laugh.
