[edit]From Paisaci Prakrit [Term?] (compare Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀸𑀤𑀸 (mādā)), from Sanskrit मातृ (mātṛ, “mother”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *máHtā, from Proto-Indo-European *méh₂tēr. Cognate with Hindi माँ (mā̃).
