Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *dīti, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *díHtis; compare English tide.[1] Alternatively from a root *dey-h₂- (to shine; day), in which case possibly related to din (to break dawn). In either case, cognate with Sanskrit दीति (dīti, brightness, splendor, daylight).
