[edit]Perhaps from Oghuz تَلُو (telü:, “crazy”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *tēlbe. Cognate to Karakhanid تَلْڤا (telvē, “crazy”),[2] Azerbaijani dəli, Turkish deli, Turkmen däli.
