[edit]From うん (un, the sound made when straining)[1] + ち (chi), a suffixing element of unclear derivation; possibly related to the directional nominalizer ち (chi) also seen in words like こっち (kocchi, “this way, this direction”), どっち (docchi, “which way, which direction”).
