Cancelled series

[edit]

I see that cancelled series are not on this template. Is this to keep the template from being too cluttered? If the answer is "yes", would it be worth while to make seperate templates for related shows (science, how-to, drama, etc.)? Just curious and thought I would ask. Thanks. -      Hydroxonium (talk) 10:35, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Although there aren’t any criteria for inclusion in the template listed (see below), I agree that the intention does seem to be to limit the series here to current ones. Therefore, I removed America in Primetime, Wide Angle, Foreign Exchange, Worldfocus, Need to Know, Life on Fire, and Healthful Indian Flavors with Alemelu (the last series, given the amount of time between the two seasons that have been produced, may not actually have ended, but there is an end date in the infobox in the article).

Criteria for inclusion

[edit]

The $64,000 question is whether this is a template for current series distributed by PBS, or for current series aired by PBS stations. Much of the programming that airs on PBS member stations is syndicated to them by sources other than the PBS network, particularly American Public Television. Many programmes that are firmly associated with PBS, by virtue of having aired on numerous member stations, have never actually been distributed by PBS at all. I would suggest limiting programmes in this template to: 1. series that have run or are expected to run for more than one season (in order to exclude multi-part documentaries), 2. are currently being distributed by PBS—as opposed to other sources—to member stations, and 3. are not part of PBS Kids (which has its own template).

It follows that if the programmes are limited to ones distributed by PBS, then the networks included should be limited to those controlled by PBS; Create and World, which are run by American Public Television, do not meet this criterion. On the other hand, if you do include those two, then you should also include MHz WorldView and V-me. However, I chose not to modify what’s currently there.

Hidden group

What’s the deal with the phantom “group8 = Personalities” between “group5” and “group6”?—Quick and Dirty User Account (talk) 17:23, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of PBS member stations into the list

[edit]

I have an idea. How about inserting the major-market PBS member stations into this template? (For example: WGBH/WGBX, WHYY, KOCE/KLCS, KQED/KQEH, WTTW/WYIN, WNET/WLIW, WPBT/WLRN, WETA/WHUT, KERA, and KHUT are examples of PBS member stations in major media markets. Other stations, like KVIE, KLVX, KAET, WUCF, WJCT, and all state PBS networks (like NJTV) are excluded.) J4lambert (talk) 21:39, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
