Notability

[edit]

I do believe this client claims notability. Many other IRC clients that may be claimed as "just clients" who are much more out of development or favour much less popularity than WeeChat have articles that have been active for many months without being deleted.

A few of these that i can easily name are Bersirc which has not released a new version in well over 3 years and their IRC support and development channels no longer even exist. Another is XiRCON which no longer has an active website (the only way to access it is via archive.org) and last had a stable release over 11 years ago. A final entry is Conspire_(IRC_client) which does favour semi-active development, but has not made a stable release in 6 months, is not in the repositories of any major linux distributions (with the sole exceptions being BSD's ports and Gentoo's Portage) and has many less users in the Support/Development IRC channel compared to WeeChat (21 users in Conspire's official IRC channel, usually upwards of 70 users in WeeChat's official IRC channel (can't say right now as Freenode is currently in a netsplit as of the writing of this talk)).

Also, all the ones i mentioned in the previous paragraph which have much less popularity than WeeChat are GUI clients which as you can probably see from the Comparison_of_Internet_Relay_Chat_clients are quite abundant compared to command-line clients such as WeeChat and a very short list of others.

Please don't belittle other clients. WeeChat just needs citations added, it already meets WP:N. I was already working on this when Ironholds added a {{prod}} template to the article. Tothwolf (talk) 08:15, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, i do sincerely apologize, but that template should not have added at all yet. With the review i added, would that cover anything? Or do you/i/we still need to grok through the WeeChat website to make citations for all the features listed? 71.163.65.173 (talk) 08:20, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I believe the {{prod}} was premature but he was just trying to help weed out "junk" articles. We still need to expand the article and add citations. The other GUI information [1] really should be mentioned and cited. Support for these makes WeeChat unique and I know of no other IRC clients that offer this. The different scripting language options also need to be mentioned and cited as very few clients offer that sort of flexibility. I'm currently working on the list of Linux distributions that include WeeChat and I believe I've already got those citations just about ready. Tothwolf (talk) 08:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The multiple GUI "feature" is sort of...Not a feature (not counting the ncurses GUI, of course)...I tried building them on my Debian Lenny system...The only one that successfully built was the GTK interface (no source files for qt and wxwidgets gives me a huge build failure) and it was quite useless. All it had was a server tab and 2 text boxes that wouldn't accept a single command i sent. I do agree completely about the amazing scripting flexibility though. Also, i'd really, really appreciate if you did the citing. I sucked at citing back in high school (~6 years ago), i sucked at citing in a report i wrote for my company almost 2 years ago and i probably still suck at it. :P 71.163.65.173 (talk) 08:59, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah ok, so that feature is not complete yet. Don't worry too much about the citation format, just put the link between <ref></ref> tags and we can add the templates later. I just added the Supported platforms section which may help show how those templates work. Tothwolf (talk) 09:52, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contested speedy deletion

[edit]

Currently IRC articles are apparently mass-proded or mass-norminated, e.g., BitchX, Bottler (IRC client), Bersirc, Bip IRC Proxy, ERC (IRC client), naim (chat program), pork client, Psotnic, psyBNC, psyced, Vortec IRC, ZNC (IRC bouncer), PIRCH, Snak, jini (IRC client), Konversation. Article has multiple sources, let's look at this one a bit closer and go trough AfD. 83.254.210.47 (talk) 15:00, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WeeChat is not Windows compatible

[edit]

There is support under development by running under Cygwin, but the fact the WP page lists Windows as a supported OS is misleading. ——Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.251.74.10 (talk) 16:38, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
